ELEME TARY PRlNCIPAL'S MESSAGE In 1961, Yuri Gagarin successfully orbited the earth. In 1969, three Americans landed on the moon. Those astronauts represent our dreams for America as well as our hopes for the entire world. As man understands more about his world, can we not hope that he can begin to understand more about himself and his Maker. If man can break the bonds of earth, can we not hope that he can break the oppressing bonds of war, ignorance, poverty, and enmity in our elementary schoolsg and I sin- cerely believe our students in Hartley are getting the best beginning possible. HIGH SCHGOL PRlNCIPAL'S MESSAGE Students: Citizens of tomorrow are determined largely by what you are learning in the classroom today. May you work, study, and live the type of school life that leads to the best in scholarship and citizenship It is our sincere desire that we, the faculty, have created an atmosphere where you, the students, have the opportunity to develop the maximum in becoming the citizens of the future.

Mr. W. E. Reisdorph SECRETARY Mrs. Jelene Williams LIPERI TE DENT'S MESSAGE Our astronauts saw our planet as whole and beauti- ful, an oasis in a cold silent universe, a tiny portion of a system about to be explored. On our continent, the challenge of exploration of new frontiers must be turned by man to develop new ways to improve the quality of human life. The most urgent need in the world today is to make certain that the era ahead will be the Age of Man. Words like tomorrow and the future necessarily guide the planning of today. Very little can be done 'about the present, so we must concentrate upon influencing the future. The problems of today represent the turbulence from yesterday's future. That turbulence must not be allowed to distract American institutions from their primary concern, preparing for the new Age of Man.
