WE'VE GOT STYLE Amy Jobes, Ann Meiske, Lori Lenz We, the 1985-86 Oracle staff, would like to share our edition of We've Got Style with you. Since fashion is so important in today's society, we show it in our Oracle just as a magazine would. We hope this is the way you consider this year's edition. We feel it is something you can really enjoy to page through and absorb. Through the pages of this issue, you will see the HM style portrayed. Enjoy! CLASSES 3-28 HANG TEN 35-54 JR. CAME Amy Jobes, Ed McLaughlin Gina Harson, David Meiske Queen Mindy Williamson, King Phillip Schauer Our queen Mindy Williamson says there's a lot to be said about small schools. The bigger schools may have the biggest and best of everything, but the kids seem to be more imaginative and creative and they're all unique indi- viduals in a small school. She'll remem- ber all the good and bad times that she feels have helped her grow. State basket- ball tournaments top her most memora- ble list. In her spare time, she enjoys showing and conditioning horses, jogging, read- ing, golfing, and listening to music. She's kept busy in school with basket- ball, track, coif, echo staff and editor, oracle staff, librarian, and FCA. Family life is shared with her dad Gor- don, her mother Roxanne, and sister Mia. In the future you'll see Mindy in college studying medicine and advertis- ing. She hopes to travel too. When asked about homecoming, Mindy felt it was much improved and that the whole week was more enjoyable. Gina Harson says she'll remember all the good times she's had in classes and otherwise. Home- coming was more enjoyable, but she feels coro- nation should have been on Thursday night. Gina's kept busy with cheerleading, band, cho- rus, oracle, FCA, National Honor Society, en- semble, and softball. Reading, playing piano, walking, and swimming fill her spare mo- ments. Her family consists of her father Donald, her mother Virginia, and brothers Greg and Robert. To be a nurse and have a family round out her future plans. One of our 1985 Homecoming attendants was Amy Jobes. Amy comes from a large family including her parents, Norman and Janie, four sisters, Cindy, Angie, Becky and Lizelle, and three brothers, Steve, Tim and Dave. Amy is involved in cheerleading, softball, band, chorus, N.W.I.H.B., FCA, and National Honor Society. In her spare time Amy enjoys going for walks, reading, collecting things for her Garfield col- lection, and going out. Things Amy will remember most about HMS are Homecoming 1985, proms, cheerleading and a lot of great times. When asked about Homecoming '85, Amy said, It was a lot of fun. The new changes went over well and it was a great success. It's one part of HM I'll always remember. After graduation Amy plans on going to college where whe will major in English education or early childhood education. ■ J One of our 1985 Homecoming attendants was Ed McLaughlin. Ed's family includes parents, Ed and Kris, and one brother and two sisters, Wade, Angie, and Jennifer. Ed's activities include football, baseball, track, cho- rus, and weightlifting. Hobbies that Ed enjoys are collecting baseball cards, fishing, hunting, and going out. Ed said that he will remember the special times at H-M such as Homecoming '85 and proms, but there are two very memorable experiences that stand out-coming home from a Milford basketball game and when he and Phil dressed in ladies night- gowns for spirit week. Our 1985 Homecoming King was Phillip Schauer. His family includes his mother and dad, Rev. John and Leona Schauer, Michael, and Andrea. Phillip was involved in foot- ball, track, band, choir, and student council. He said, I thought Homecoming 1985 was great because everybody got involved. What Phillip will remember most about HMHS is Homecoming 1985, proms, and coach Jesse. His hobbies are fishing, hunt- ing, trapping, and collecting rocks and beer cans. Phillip plans to attend Ellsworth Com- munity College where he will take the Con- servation Technology Program. David was a 1985 HM Homecoming attendant. His family members are his mother and dad, John and LaVaughn, Lori, Lee, and twin sister, Ann. Activities for David were football, basket- ball, track, baseball, student council, band, choir and National Honor Society. David said, I thought 1985 Homecoming was great! Things were organized and well planned. I feel it was a real success. The hobbies he enjoys are fishing and all sport- ing events. What David will remember most about HMHS is the good education, special times like homecomings and proms, being with friends, and special memories involving his sports. Homecoming 1985 went over well. I liked the changes and the way people got involved, stated Ed when he was asked for his thoughts on Home- coming. Ed's future plans are kind of uncertain. He would like to go on to college or to the Coast Guard. David plans to attend college where he will take the Athletic Trainer Program or Physical Ther- First row- L. Dykstra, L. Mohni, M. Marco, T. Spirit” was the fall play given by the Hart- ley-Melvin Drama Department. Spirit was about the goings on in a retirement-rest home. Kayla Roghair and Leah Heimsoth stole the show with their portrayals of two elderly women. The cast, as well as the audience, experienced the feelings of people in a retirement home. All cast members worked extremely well together for a top quality performance. The play contained comedy, but at the same time it also touched your heart. The entire cast of Spirit can be congratulated on an outstanding performance. HEY, TEACH! Front row- D. Jobes, M. Schaa, M. Petersen, P. Linder. G. Harson, K. Roghair, L. Heimsoth, Second- B. The guys worked together very well and because of that we had a successful year. After an opening season loss to Rock Valley, the Hawks won two games in a row with victories over Milford and Sutherland. After a very close loss to Paullina the Hawks bounced back with a big victory over Primghar. The Hawks finished the season with a loss to co-champion San- born, a victory over Alta and a very hard fought loss to Aurelia. The Hawks played a wide-open offense and had a sound defense that seldom gave up the big play. A very enjoyable year for the coaches and players. Front row: P. Schauer, W. Robinson, B. Leth, C. Their 65 Point offensive average was the product of these four young ladies- Mindy William- son, Angie Bobolz, Brenda Brockmann, and Alisa Nonneman. The 52 point defensive average was main- tained by the work of these five girls- Becky Harms, Leslie Hansen, Jill Samson, Jackie Waggoner, and Mi- chele Petersen. With all but one starter returning next year and the experience gained from a successful sea- son this year the Hawkettes will be a strong contender to unseat Sutherland as conference champions. Fashions included Hawaiian prints on shirts and Jams, which the sen- iors wore the last day, stirrup pants, and long shirts. On the radio we heard Rock Me Amadeus by Falco, Live to Tell by Madonna, Let's Go All the Way by Sly Fox, and I Wanna Be a Cowboy by Boys Don't Dry. On the screen were Pretty in Pink and Top Gun . We had many interesting experiences in chem labs and classes. Phil learned not to sit on sinks and we learned how to look for tornados on prom night. A wedding announcement was also made even though it was just part of Family Living. A great end was the 1st place finish of the boys' golf team at state and the band's trip to Washington D.C. where Mr. Arndt learned to color and Mr. Wood learned how to get left behind. We hope you enjoy paging through this edition of Oracle and bid you farewell. 108 -I
