Kristy Haack, Roxanne Nagel, Mr. Fletcher This year’s staff was composed of 8 girls who were chosen by our advisor, Mr. Fletcher. We attended a yearbook workshop at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake to learn new ideas and see how to put them to use. The co-editors were Mary DeGraaf and Lisa Dillingham and the assistant co-editors were Kristy Haack and Toni DeVries. Our pictures were taken by Susan Pahl and Mr. Fletcher, along with other staff members. Our sales managers were Roxanne Nagel and Stephanie Woolston who were assisted by the whole staff. The new addition to this edition is the colored senior photos. These were paid for by the class of 1981. We, the Oracle staff, hope that this yearbook will bring back alot of charitable memories that will be long remembered! 36 Sponsored by Treimer’s Insurance Echo Staff Row 1: J. Noonan, L. Swanson, C. The staff was kept real busy every week with having to get the good coverage of all the happenings in and around the school. Some of the new additions to the paper were Teacher of the Week, Class of the Week, the Trivia Quiz, The Mystery Photos, and many pictures of current activities. Having the Echo in the local newspaper was a good attempt to get the whole community involved in the school and we feel it was a real success! Sponsored by Boyer’s Chevrolet Huntting Elevator 37 0 f f 1 c e r s This year the Hartley FHA Chapter consisted of 28 members. They held many meetings through- out the year with various activities included. The girls also ran the conces- sion stand throughout the track season. Majorette - Mary DeGraaf The 1980 marching season was a success- ful one for the Hartley Hawk Marching Band. The year started out with a trip to Sioux City for Drums Across America to get everyone in the marching mood. The season consisted of 4 shows and the band’s appearance at state contest. The band again was one of the top scoring bands in the state of Iowa, again scoring in the high 80’s. The superior rating won this year ran Hartley’s string of I’s to 10 in a row, the longest string on consecutive Class B su- perior ratings in the state. STILL NUMBER ONE Cheerleaders The varsity and J.V. squads of cheerleaders each spent an exciting week at the N.C.A. camp at Okoboji where they got many new ideas for future games and pep meetings. The most rewarding time during the week was when the varsity was presented with a spirit stick aboard the Empress. The cheerleaders had a very eventful and fulfilling year. The enthusiasm that the fans showed throughout the year impressed both squads very much. The varsity felt honored to be able to accompany the team to Des Moines and it was a trip that the cheerleaders and their sponsor will never forget. The season ended with the cheerleaders giving the spirit award to Mrs. Ray Getting and Barb Peters.
