Standing left to right: Duane Kolpin; Harry Olhausen; H. L. Borchard, superintendent. HOWARD BORCHARD Howard Borchard, superintendent, is a gradu- ate of Spencer High School. He received his Bache- lor of Arts degree at Wayne State Teachers Col- lege and his Master of Arts degree from the Uni- versity of South Dakota at Vermillion. He first came to Hartley in 1954 as an English teacher. He became principal in 1956, a job which he held for eight years. In 1964 he attained his present position of superintendent. Hartley High School’s principal, Charles Schmidt, graduated from high school in Scotland, S. D. He attended Southern State Teachers Col- lege where he received his Bachelor of Science de- gree and continued his studies at the University of South Dakota where he obtained his Master of Arts degree. Mr. Schmidt taught for eight years before coming to Hartley in 1965 to accept the position of principal. CHARLES SCHMIDT Page Seven
