Peter Hammond Robert Ford Frank Hammond Gale Luedke Mar1on Hammond Cleo Mae Guhl Nancy'Ham ond Yvonne Sprague Clementine Betty l61m6f Jimmy Parker John Jochums Mrs Parker Ruth Ann Rlckabaugh Sylvia Lavonne P1ke 'Salad Days, a three act comedy, under the direction of ur Ivan Haxson, was presented by the Junior class, on November 24 1945 'Salad Days' is the lively story of Peter Hammond, h1s fam his friends and h1s loves! His first love is the ephemeral Sylv1a3 h1s second, a botan1cal monstros1ty, also named 'Sylvla During a moment of sc1ent1f1c 1nspirat1on, Peter has crossed a carnatlon and a geranlum, and wonder of wonders, it has grown He has de voloped a formula for 1ts care, and the thlnklng and act1ng of the ent1re household has been regulated to f1t the fancled moods of Sylvia The or1g1nal Sylvla obyects very strenuously to be1ng shelved by a plant Most of her obgeotion 13 by telephone, but for one fleetlng lnstant, she flashes onto the stage, vlolently voices her pent up emotions, and just as v1o1ently vanlshes from view The development of the plot, until the plant is ruined by over feeding and Peter returns to h1s femin1ne love, 15 amded by his understanding mother and Skeptlcdl father, his pal Jlmmy Parker, and Mrs Parker, h1s lovely sister, Nancy, and the mental genius, Clementine nSa1ad Days was 1dea1ly suited to the times, for class play purposes It was a typlcal story of family l1fe, requirlng a small cast, and definitely dlsoelled any feeling of gloom wh1ch the audi ence might have felt when enterlng the audltorium. Bettye Knapp has captured the sp1r1t of a typical Amer1can home for th1s play The conversation on the stage mlght very eas1ly have taken place in your house on any evenlng, or at any meal The problems of the family are typical of any family 'Salad Days will be remember d by the cast as engoyable to develop and by the audlence as a pleasant interlude 1n the busy, worried world of bus1ness and war.
