THE BAMD MAKES SOUND WAVES IM 87 SYMPHONIC BAND This is the first year that the band has been divided into two full fledged groups. Activities for the 86-87 school year for the Symphonic Band were a Christ- mas concert, Michigan school band and orchestra festival, solo and ensemble festival, middle school and elementary school tour, and a spring concert. A few select students were also be in- vited to perform with the Living- ston Country Honors Band. This years band size has greatly increased and hopes to continue growing in the future. MARCHING BAND The other half of the band de- partment, and to most the better known is the marching band. Its size too has been increasing as has its performance. The bands ' activities beginning in August included a marching band camp for one week and performing at all home football games. Other activities that they participated in were the Michi- gan school marching band festi- val and marching in the memori- al day parade. The Hartland marching band is very proud of its performances this year. They received a II (2nd division, good rating) at their first ever marching band festival performance. The band hopes to continue this pattern throughout the year.
