In each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand. One was mine, and one was the Lord ' s. When the last scene of my life appeared before me, I looked back at the footprints i n the sand, and, to my surprise, I noticed that many times along the path of my life there was only one set of footprints. And I noticed that it was at the lowest and saddest times of my life. I asked the Lord about it. ' Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you would walk with me all the way. But I notice that during the most troublesomes times of my life there is only one set of footprints. I don ' t understand why you left my side when I needed you most! ' ' The Lord said: My pre- cious child, I never left you during your times of trial. Where you see only one set of footprints, I was car- rying you. ' ' . But the season did produce both good and bad memories. The first half of the season held high hopes for winning the liVC with a league record of 1-4. The final record was 4-5 overall, finishing third in the KVC, a big jump from last place a year ago. The season started with a loss to Fowler- ville. It wasn ' t a good beginning. But the next week in a great defensive battle the Eagles were victorious with a 2-0 victory over the Milford Redskins. Lakeland was next. Again the game explained the de- fensive talents for our Eagles and ended in victory for flartland. Then came the biggest win of the season, a 12-11 win over the Brighton bull- dogs. The first time in four years that we beat Brighton. The Eagles then moved on to beat non-league Woodhaven. From then on flartland didn ' t win another game, but was still proud of their accomplishments, personnel and team. flartland produced a few 1st and 2nd team all lea- guers and a slew of hon- orable mentions. Coach Barbieri was told at the seasons end by other op- posing coaches that flartland had by far the hardest hitters in the league this year. 14 40 75 J.V. If you had attended any of the flartland hockey games, you would have seen how well Eagles really do skate. Wednesday October 15 was the night of the powder puff game where the almightly seniors defeated the juniors with a 12-0 score. Friday October 1 7 was Blue and Gold day and [he spirit jug battle between the juniors and seniors. Even though the juniors were the loudest, the sen- iors out-spirited them. Also on the 1 7th, the Seniors took first place in the float contest with the Peter Pan ' pirate ship. Second place went to the junior class their version of Snow White . The Freshman came in third with Dumbo , while the sophomore class took fourth place with The Three Little Pigs. The Royal homecoming Court consisted of Queen Colleen Colliton and King Jeff Brunner. Denise Sie- man. Matt Rauch, Cheryle Randolph, and Doug Vowles also represented the Seniors. Mary Novak and Pat Meswinter represented the Juniors. Repre- senting the Sophomores were Linda Nussle and Dave Prain. Freshmen representatives were Heidi Wold and Tom Morse. Even though the Eagles put forth much effort, they sunk to a sad defeat against South Lyon, the final outcome was 18-9. Last but not least was the Home- coming Dance. Everyone had waves of fun and jammed to the tunes!! THE CLASS OF 1987 REMEMBERS SALLY JEAN BOUTELL 1969-1984 Christmas is a time for caring. Christmas is a time when families should be together with their love for each other, with dinner and presents under the Christmas Tree, and celebrate Jesus ' s birth. Love Sally Boutell OUR ERI-MAN When he shall die take him St cut him out in little stars and he will make the face of heaven so fine that all the world will be in love with night and pay no worship to the garish ship. Erik Birzgalis ERIK MICHEAL BIRZGALIS 1969-1984 SALLY BOUTELL She warmed our hearts with her eternal smile, knocking down the ob- stacles and enjoying life as an ultimate privilege. Her weakness was our strength, for she remind- ed us that life is a pre- cious thing and we should never take it for granted. JOHN PETER GOLLA 1968-1985 ERIK BIRZGALIS Me was a very enthusias- tic athlete, and a good one at that. Those whose lives were touched by him remember his warm and friendly personality, flis life with us ended much too soon, but he left us with many special memories, that can nev- er be taken away. JOHN GOLLA With his humorous per- sonality and his practical jokes, he attracted many friends, tie enjoyed going to school and was a real peopleperson. The wheelchair wasn ' t an ob- stacle for John, he lived life and loved every mo- ment of it. TAMMY HANSEN tier eyes sparkled like stars and her smile was just as bright. She was a national Honor Society member, an avid athlete, and a warm-hearted friend to everyone who knew her. Her short life ended tragically, but we were all left with a price- less treasure of having known her. TAMMY LYNNE HANSEN 1969-1986 John always was an Eddie Murphy Fan. Here are some quotes that John always imitated from Eddie Murphy: Now that ' s a fire! ' ' It ' s just so ridiculous! ' ' Goonie Goo-Goo! ' ' ' Anything is possible if only you believe. -Tammy L. You see them wasting time at a drinking fountain, looking busy at a lock- er, being bounced around as they at- tempt to pass through a hallway intersection, or occupying one of the school ' s pay- phones. Whatever the case may be, it ' s the people from flartland High that make it unique. If you were to only see one smile from a students face, it would probably surface betwe en 10:45 to 12:15; Lunch time. Remember the salad bar, not so hot lunches, chocolate milk, and the never ending search for a simple chair? And how can you forget the waiting in the crowded French Fry line. nevertheless, lunch gives students a chance to breathe. It allows you to talk about the weekend past and the coming Friday night. You can hear students talking about last nights game, or mourning over the test they took 3rd hour. Whatever the case, you couldn ' t make it through one day without lunch. ,1 1 s DRIVING When you turn sixteen, you have the priviledge of driv- ing. More important, you are now eligible to drive to school, no more riding a bus full of strange odors and screaming noises; now you can come to and leave school in your own car. But, when 2:15 p.m. ap- proaches, the average stu- dent driver takes part in THE RACE. Yes, this is the herd of cars that go on their furious rampage to- ward the exit. There, they make a right turn, only to drive 100 yards, and per- form the notorious U Turn in the Plaza across from the school. What can you say about work? In school or out, not many students look forward to it. Whether it ' s an essay for Mrs. Eichler, a story for Mr. Merrill, an experiment for Mr. Mishier, or a speech for Mrs. Bachman, we ail have to do it. Don ' t forget working out of school. Places such as Food- town, McDonalds, Burger King, Movieland, Shell, Mat- thews, ttartland Pizza, Cosmos, and other local busin- esses have supplied students with jobs for many years, years. ri - 1 fjHbPK f£ 1 Fl 11 .1 a .
