Looking back through the years we find that the subjects we study today are almost the same as the ones studied by previous students Each student was required To take three years of English In Freshman and Sophomore English sentence ructure good grammer and how to write themes was studied Early American Literature was taken up in Junior English also the study of famous American authors In Senior English the student studied English Literature through the centuries Reading and studying Shakespeare was also taken up by the Senior English student Every year Students were required to report on six books which they had read In the first year of high school the student was required to take English and was offered a choice of either Genera' Science or Citizenship Then a choice of two or more subjects were offered Such as Homemakmg 9 Agriculture Industrial Arts Gereral Business Art Band Algebra w1th the possibility of first year Latm The Sophomore student was required to take English and a choice of Biology World History and Algebra was offered The student was then offered a continuation of the foreign language Homemakmg 10 Geometry if Algebra was studied the year before Industrial Arts Typing Agriculture Band and Chorus In the Junior Year English and Umted States History was required Again the students had two more subjects to pick on their own Art Mechanical Drawing Advanced Algebra Shorthand 1 Chemistry Homemakmg 11 Agriculture Band and Chorus In the Senior year of High School the student was not required to take any definite subject The student could take three or four subjects of their liking But with three subjects you were not allowed to partake in any outside events or extra curricula activities So as a rule you found almost all Seniors taking four subjects They had lots of subjects to choose from such as English 12 Bookkeeping Shorthand 2 Solid Geometry Advanced Algebra Office Practice Art Homemakmg 12 Agricul ture Band Chorus and one semester subjects as Economics Sociology Psychology and Geography The Math courses offer were Beginning Algebra Geometry Advanced Algebra and two half semester courses of Trigonometry and Solid Geometry Beginning Algebra and Plain Geometry was almost a necessity or students wishing to take science courses such as Chemistry and Physics. Even in Mechanical Drawing and Industrial Arts beginning math was helpful. Advanced courses in Algebra Trigonometry and Solid Geometry were taken by students who wished to go on to College in the field of Science. United States History was required for all students. The student could also choose World History Citizenship Economics. Sociology and Psychology. Geography was also offered if enough students wished to take it. Thanks to History and Citizen- ship students learned the basic foundation of our land and our government. Econom- ics Psychology. and Sociology' students were taught somewhat how' to cope with everyday problems. There were three foreign languages offered at one time or another to students wanting to take them. They were Latin. French. and Spanish. Each were two year subjects. All business courses were offered here. These included Typing, Shorthand. Ofjice Practice, and Bookkeeping. Typing and Shorthand were also offered in advanced courses. Students who took these courses were prepared to go into most any business office or on to business school. Students who wished to could take Art all four years of high school. Mechanical Drawing and a course in Woodworking was also offered. We must not fail to mention again the Agriculture and Domestic Science courses which were taught here at our high school. These courses enabled the girls to become better housewives and the boys better farmers of the future.
