Herald The lad pocketed the cent and darted through the crowd shouting lustrly It was a clear brrsk October day 'lhe sun shed its cheery rays upon the Four Corners grrrng Jov to the hearts of 'rll 'lhe Four Corners was the very heart of the crty It was the rendezvous of all business men great and small Also t was a good place to sell newspapers and the boy who ow ned a corner there was consrdcred very lucky Such a boy was Jrmmy Dale aged thirteen One could read good nrturr. upon hrs treckled face Joy and merrrnrent rn hrs blue eyes and could tell by hrs trlted nose that he possessed a good happv heart It was Nlonday afternoon .Irmmy was dodging here and there rn the crowd glrdrng between heavy drays and swiftly passing automobiles and Jumping on and off mars like an elfin with a ch rrrned hfe lnxtry mister he shouted slrpplng past an ruto to get rn a sale betore a rrval This mantuyer Jrmmy stood upon the curb and grzed at the people the stream of lrte rn its ebb and flow The uproar drd not bother hrrrr he was accus tomed to rt For two vears he had been rt hrs post rain or shrne As he stood meditating hrs eyes lost their twinkle and cheertulness fled from hrs fare He thought of hrs home minus L loving mother who was now rn Heaven He saw a father harsh rnd cruel their shabby home 1 roonr rn arr ugly tenement cr tlrorrglrts would drrrrprrr tht ru ust rrrrr rrrrr y v r e 1 from the happiest hefrrt Irmmy wrs so depressed that he forgot hrs surroundings and the bundle of papers under hrs arm Suddenly he awoke as hrs attentron was attracted by a trrnr figure passing rn and out among the passing X9h1Cl6S Her s was a beautltul face with the heart of 1 blooming rose rn each cheek Her harr was dark and blue eyes so soft they struck .Irmmy with mute admiration He remembered hrs nrother had blue eyes and a longing to know someone like her came over hrm Before he realrzed rt hrs blue cyed rdeal stopped rn front ot hrm and gave hrm a pleasant look that restored hrs cheerfulness Piper lrdy' lll take 'r Iournfrl crowd Oh sard Jrmmy I wrsh she was nry srster Dusk descended and the shimmering lights of the arty drspellcd the g'oom lr l 1 y rr so o lftl X rrt t more and roughest section of the crty Wretclred tenements loomed upon every srde frownrng upon the drrty narrow streets Jrmmv turned rnto one of these and url 1114 srl rud ln 111001 Well how much money have you got came rn 1 gruff voice from the corner of thc roonr Irmmys father sat before a table glowing at the lad This was the father who at one time had burr loyrng and krnd brrt since the death of Jrrrrmys mother a change came over hrm he worked lrttle drank much and nrade llfe miserable for Irmmy Are you deaf?
