18 THE OWL ANNUAL When we were juniors, we did as juniorsg but when we became Seniors we put away childish things. When we were young we used to tell the teachers what we knewg now we send them bonbons the night before the reports are made up. Once we were in the habit of inscribing knowledge in deep creases on our braing now we write it on our cuff and wear the creases in our trousers. There was a time when we thought the lunch room pies were made to eatg we know better now. fEditor's note: It is impossible to say just what these pies are made of. A large number of similar ones have lately been found in the didn't Llaugh at our teacher's jokef Pjg now we cannot conceal our amusement. It seems to grow better every time it is told. As we said before, we don't want to boast, but sometimes we can't help thinking of that interclass field day last spring. Eh, bins! Nuf sed! The next day all our English teachers had us learn: And where is that band who so vauntingly swore? etc. When it came to football we surprised even the slow coaches. We're kickers from away back. And didn't we look fetching in those nose guards and vaccination pads? VVell, now, I reckon. We even had to hire a real live policeman, six feet two in low shoes and a forage cap, to keep the crowds back whenever we practiced. It seems that when the Sophs decided to give us a dance, the Board, out of respect for us, held a special meeting. It was decided that after we had hopped our hop, nevermore should grave and rev- erend Seniors trip the light fantastic with honor aspiring Sophs. It is well. A vote of respect from men to men. The Board in honoring us has honored itself. And now there is one thing that genuinely grieves us. Altho, we could not help it, yet we must take the responsibility. We cannot tell a lie. We have, unintentionally, made work harder for our suc- cessorsg we have raised the standard of the schoolg examinations have been 'made harderq the college requirements increased. We extend our sincere sympathy to the lower classes. Without our mental equip- ment they must follow the pace that we have set. And some must fall by the wayside. But space is lacking. Our story is not toldg we have just jogged down a few unadorned facts. But what facts they are! What excel- lence of ours they do display! Greece fell! Rome fell! We are just beginning to rise! Verily, truth is stranger than fiction.
