THE OWL ANNUAL 17 History of Class of 1905 Y E ARE NOT some TO BoAsT. You can take everything we say as an axiom raised to the fn-ljst power. QWe only mention this for the benefit of the lil lower classes, our dear teachers know it already.j gg- ' Four eventful years have passed since the dawn of the new century witnessed our resolution to strictly medi- tate the thankless muse. A crucial point in the world's history had arrived. As old Father Time tremblingly raised the curtain of ages, the spheres played low music. And then we appeared in the lime lights! Ah! Even in these days of our sedate seniority it quickens our pulse to recall the scene. A moments suspense, and then-the progress of the world was assured, the welfare of America guaranteed, and the prestige of our good old Nutmeg State established. Well worthy is 1901 to be a mile stone on the road of our national progress. In the rope pulls our-ah, well, we don't want to injure any one's feelings. Let our opponents take heart. Let them remember 'twas magna' Aeneae drxfm that did 'em up. Don't be surprised, we've studied Latin. When we had been here two years they had to get out a new grammar-the old one was too simple. Speaking of Latin reminds us. Ad Rem. Don't try to translate it, you're likely to miss the point. That's a motto by scholars for scholars. No Freshmen need apply. Now, when we were Freshmen they didn't make us run the gaunt- let. You bet they didn't! We just looked at them and they wept. As Sophomores, we were far ahead of all others in knowledge, wise and otherwise. Who was it who came so near being forgotten that they had to hire a sign painter to resurrect their memory? But it was not their fault they were unnoticed. One can seldom see the moon while the sun is shining.
