This solid foun- dation is found in the school policies that are enacted by Mr. Casely and our line school board. jean Collins, the school secretary, has been very helpful to our school, also. Very definitely the administration has been working hard for two very advantageous results. They atre, of course, the new high school and the proposed summer school. The site of the new school, which is hoped to be hnished bv the fall of 1960, is southwest of the present athletic lield. The machinery that keeps our school running smoothly is our xery hard working administration. While we remain fortunate in having capable men serving with our principal in administering to.the educa- tional needs of our community, we recognize that our yearbook would be incomplete without expressing the re- gret we continue to feel over the untimely death of Mr. Alfred Rode, a conscientious board member and a g00d friend 'D as fu. To help lead the class jane Christenson as President, Suzanne Mittlestadt as Vice President, Cheryl Schauruherg as Secretary, and Dewey Currier as 'l'reasurer were chosen. They entered their lirst big social affair by electing Mary Delaneydand Shirley Funk as Homecoming Queen Candidates. Among the athletically inclined boys were Peter Engelke, jim Dillon. and Art Rode. A great tribute to the Freshmen is that their boys were champions of their basketball league, Besides the boys. the girls were also ac- tive in Athletics. just a sampling of these are Shirley Funk, Bernadette Neuburg, and Mary Lynn hummer, Ii team Cheerleaders. Because of these accomplishments and the many other umneutioned ones we feel that the Class of '62 has found the pattern for their next three years in Hartford High School. Leading this ambi- tious class were President Tom Luckieshg Vice President, Oscar Kraft, Secretary, CharleneBusse- witzg and Treasurer, janice Schilling. john Leach and Sandra Esslinger were chosen to be Stu- dent Council representatives and Carol Weinert and Judith Cerutti represented the class on the Homecoming Court of Honor. Showing a high degree of ability and drive, the Sophomores had nine members join the National Honor Society, five members on the debate squad, with Mary Casely debating on the varsity team which went to State, and five members representing their class on the all-school Forensics Team. In addition to this impressive record, in the line of sports, Harry Klinlt was on the varsity basketball team, and twelve others were on the B team. Cheering them on were Mary Lynn YVeber, an A squad cheerleader, and Judy Cerutti and Sarah Baetz, on the B squad. Yes, the list of achievement could go on and on. Next year, as upper-classmen we know this class will set an equally fine record. Qc 47, . ,- -- ,J-. 1- , 1 'Y f v 7 ,QQ vp Q1 WUPHUMURl'lS - ' ' F Xllmcrl I licfkcx' Nl 1 n'x Y Kwllics I1 llgulaunu. Formed this year, the club operated under the leadership of Mike Epprecht, President, Nancy Campbell, Vice President-Secretary, and Petra Christian- son, Treasurer. john Leach represented the organization on the Student Council. Because the organization was in a trial stage, membership was limited to Sophomores only. It is hoped that in the coming years membership can be extended to all four classes. The Science Club held bi-monthly meetings at which the members had lectures, saw movies, and worked on projects of interest to them. . I, b' ' Q, i zl-'inf' . 3 xx- 4' . 1 i I ll i 5 H X -J. Madeline Buckley, Secretary, and Kathleen O'Keane, Treasurer. The Council again sponsored the buddy program for incoming freshmen, the UNICEF project for under- privileged children, and the annual Christmas program. In addition, Homecoming, of course, was the Council's big project. Moonglow was the theme chosen, with beautiful decoration made lo accent it. As a new project the Student Council started work on a Code of Ethics for our school. The idea was brought up at the Little Ten Conference which Hartford attended. From blocks around could be heard the highly spirited cheering which resounded from the crowds gather- ed on the front lawn of the High School on Homecoming Day for an inspiring pep-meeting at which our queen, Marlene Esslinger, her court. and King Wayne Anne were formally introduced. The parade in the afternoon was better than ever. A lot of good hard work was reflected by all of the floats. but as anyone who worked on them can tell you, it was sure a lot of fun. The G.A.A. took first place in the parade with a beautiful big Oriole, and the Spanish Club was second with a httge, rocking Mexirzm Sombrero. The Queen and her court were escorted ottt to the lield just before the game by the High School Band. which, also put on a nice halfwtitne show at which members of past graduating classes were honored. Our boys put up a hard tight in the game, and our loss to May- ville couldn't even dampen our spirits. ltnmediately afterwards came the long awaited Homecoming dance in the beautifully moonlit gym with the theme Moon Glow and the 'l'op Hatters furnishing the music. With the crowning of the Queen. Marlene and Wayne happily led the Grand March as the termination of another won- derful Homecoming at Hartford High rapidly approached.
