4 — Big wins over old rivals Lebanon 39 0, Windsor 20-7, and Woodstock 12-8. 5 — Great opening win over Poultney 30-8, Poultney went on to win all their other games. 6 — Placed 3 of our players on the Vermont Shrine Team — John Aher, Jim Kenison, and Jon Potter. 7 — Achieved the 50th win for Coach McCanna when we defeated Fair Haven 32-6 — then went on to register 3 more wins to bring it to 53 wins, 39 losses, and 3 ties for Coach McCanna’s tenure here at his old Alma Mater. We lose a lot of outstanding players thru graduation and the following players will be hard to replace — John Aher, Bill Clerkin, Tim Smith, Danny Hardy, Steve Bomhower, Jon Potter, Jim Kenison, Bruce Oronte, Dennis Parra, Ernie Gour, Bob Durkee, Danny Perkins, Robert Powden, and Jim Brooks. Porra, Coach Carsley. 1973 FOOTBALL SEASON State Champs in 72 and almost a repeat in ’73. Just 5 minutes away from picking up all the marbles. Leading 12 to 0 at the half over an undefeated Essex Junction team — the first 5 minutes, at the start of the second half, did the damage to our team as Essex scored twice and converted both times, to win the Championship 1 4 to 12. We scored once more in the 4th period but it went for naught as our runner was ruled to have stepped out before going into the end zone. Our boys turned in a fine season as they won 7 and lost 2 — some of the highlights of the season were: 1 — Second straight Southern Vermont Championship. 2 — Twelve straight wins Versus Vermont opponents. 3 — Outstanding victories against Division I teams — 28 Bellows Falls 26-8 and Mt. St. Joseph's 18-12.
