1 The 1973 cditio n of the Hartford Hurricane Baseball Team swept thru a successful vns. In its« ition of the Mart regular seftlon and v e seeded ninth in the Class L baseball play-d ppemn ' ■iiii i. ¥ plav-dayn , Hartford dfe defeated MSJ 6-3 with Jim Kenkon pitching a 4-hit ball game and George Ostler's home run leading the hitting attack. Hartford’s next opponent was undefeated Essex Junction, with the game being played at Essex. As underdogs, the team pulled the biggest set of the year winning 5-4. Outstanding ir h game waflthe fine pitching of Dale Follensbee with relief help from Jim W A Kenison. The entire team played outstanding defensive ball. At this point, tile sports wi iters had dubbed the Hurricane e as the Cinderella team of the State play offs. Hartford’s next opponent was the strong Mount Anthony team from Bennington, winning this game 3-0 behind the 2-hit pitching of Kenison, with John Dyer getting the key hit driving in 2 of the 3 runs. The State Championship game against South Burlington saw Hartford win its first Class L Championship since 1927 with a score of 5-1. Behind the 6-hit pitching of Kenison and errorless ball by the team and timely hits by John Dyer and Jack Briggs, Hartford walked off as State Championship much to the delight of the large crowd at the Windsor field.
