After losing the first four games the team came back to win three straight, ending the season with a moral victory over highly favored Windsor High School. The prospects for next year will be brighter than they have been for a long time. Only five seniors will be graduating: Larry Luce, Vic Young, Steve and Dennis Marcotte, Richard Colburn and Ed Nichols. These boys will be hard to replace but with the new spirit and a large squad of veterans returning, the football fortunes of Hartford High will be on the upturn. Pipnin, j. Stephens, J. Woods, F. Twiss. The 1959-60 season was rough indeed, when scanning the won-lost column. All six of Hartford's Vermont opponents were seeded teams in the L and I tournaments. Each member of the team should be commended for the hustle displayed, regardless of the score. This was largely responsible for the upsetting of St. Marys. The leading scorers were John Stephens, John Freitas, Jim Woods, and Karl Matson. Ed Nichols was a leading rebounder and Bob LaFlam’s hustle helped the Midgets efforts. Needless to say, everyone is looking forward to a successful 1960-61 season. The Junior Varsity played some good ball during the course of the season, ending with a 7-10 record. They did not look bad in any game, giving every team a good fight with most of its losses being very close. Some of the boys may develop into good varsity material. Bigelow, Friend, Wheeler and Donahue were outstanding, with Hall Storti, Falzarano and others stepping in when needed. 1959-60 RECORD Hartford 29 Windsor 31 Hartford 21 Springfield 32 Hartford 47 Brattleboro 8 •Hartford 46 Windsor 38 •Hartford 59 Stevens 53 Hartford 20 Ludlow 27 •Hartford 42 Hanover 19 Hartford 36 St. Marys 38 Hartford 26 Towle 31 •Hartford 48 Woodstock 28 Hartford 25 Lebanon 37 Hartford 38 KUA 47 •Hartford 32 Hanover 14 •Hartford 32 Towle 29 Hartford 31 Marian 52 Hartford 30 Woodstock 33 Hartford 21 St. Marys 29 GIRLS’ VARSITY BASKETBALL KNEELING: M. During the year's play superb defensive work was carried out by D. Hamel, B. Schaal, and L. Young. The Top scorer was Sandra Guyer with J. White close behind. The Junior Varsity record was 8-2. There is great potential on this squad, as most of the girls were freshmen and sophomores. The future looks bright for HHS in girls basketball. However, with the background achieved by all who participated and the confirmed high spirits of the girls, next year promises to be a high point for field hockey at H. H. S.
