Now that graduation time is here one wonders where the time has gone. Your school years were pleasant years and I know that each one of you must be looking forward to the challenge ahead, and I am sure that you will meet this challenge with your heads high and with the determination to achieve success. Best wishes for a very happy, healthy, and fruitful life in the years to come. Sincerely yours. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE To the Class of 1958 We shall miss the Class of 1958 next September. We shall long remember the successes of your class. You may be proud of your accomplishments both In the classroom and in the co-curricular activities. You have demonstrated, as this yearbook so vividly displays, that you possess the leadership and stick-to-itlveness that will serve you well in this scientific age. You are the first graduates of Hartford High School to emerge into a Sputnik conscious world. This new era of space travel will demand great contributions from you. The advancement of our democracy will depend upon your acquisition and wise use of knowledge. You are at the entrance of the road of adult life. You, in conjunction with your fellow graduates throughout the United States, may fashion our world into a better place for all humanity. You are faced with the challenge to promote and preserve our democratic and Christian ideals for all future generations. The faculty members say simply that we wish you well and that we have great faith in you. Sincerely, John P. Gates; Principal DEDICATION We, the Class of 1958, sincerely dedicate this yearbook to the memory of Miss Martina Van Deusen. Throughout her 30 years of teaching at Hartford High. Miss Van Deusen unerringly helped her students along the road to success. We will long re- member her for her scholarship and loyalty. APPRECIATION This is to let Mr. Ricker know that his efforts to make Hartford High a more pleasant school have not been forgotten and so we include this page of appreciation to him. Some of us have known Alvin since our grammar school days at Hartford. Others know him as the fellow who drives the yellow school bus. We all know him as the capable janitor of Hartford High. He is always on hand to make assemblies more presentable for the public, even though the occasion may be after school hours. To you, Alvin, the class of 1958 would like to extend a well- earned thank you. JOHN P. GATES Principal B. S. Ed., Rutgers M. Ed., Vermont Trigonometry Solid Geometry THOMAS R. Meeting the best teams in New Hampshire and Vermont, the players gave a good account of themselves. Several of the games were close and could have gone either way. The highlight of the season was a 6-0 win over Hanover High School. The Windsor game brought to an end the high school football careers of Dick Stanley, Dick Packard, Ed Wheeler, (captain) Hank Olsen, Ron Aldrich, Jack Evans, Bill Aher, Ray Fogg, Willis Shirley, and Francis Oakes. In games played in its own class, Hanford showed a fine twelve win and one loss record. The overall record for the year, including the early December games, was thirteen wins and five losses and co-championship of the Twin State League. This fine record resulted in Hartford's selection for state tournament birth. Hartford defeated Peoples Academy of Morrisville 49-41 in a playoff game for the right to enter the Northern Class I Tourney at Barre, Vermont. Hartford met and defeated a strong pre-tourney favorite, Winooski High, by a score of 43-35. In the Northern finals. Hartford was defeated by Northfield High School in a high scoring contest 74-66. Our school received the runner-up trophy for the Tournament and Bruce Southgate was selected on the All-Tourney Team.
