Herman Richardson. Superintendent, - John Freitas. Principal Principal's Message To the C lass of 1945: Congratulations! You have achieved one more step in the wheels of progress. Let each one of you continue to strive to achieve more steps until you can honestly say “I am.” I can state my point better by quoting the following poem, entitled “Climbing”: “You have to let go of the rung below When you reach for the rung above; There is no other way to climb, you know; Each upward step brings more of the glow And warmth of the sun of love. But you have to let go of the rung below When you reach for the rung above.” The war has left its imprint on your class in more ways than the one of missing classmates. Heroes arc not made on the battlefield alone. In the flush of emerging victories from a war for the rights of humanity, it may be a forgivable inadvertence to forget for a moment the rights to which we are entitled. It is good to be reminded that helping others is our American way of doing things, and of helping humanity. Your class can be very helpful in this cause by always striving to achieve a happy and successful life. We who are left behind at Hartford High sincerely hope that your future is filled with pleasant experiences. For me, it has been pleasant working with you. Sincerely, John A. Freitas 5
