Principal's Message Inscribed on a monument erected in his honor are these words of Horace Mann: “Be ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity. This is still a challenge to youth and an ideal of the public schools. Youth is a priceless heritage. With its ardor and strength there should be no hesitancy in accepting the challenge and striving to realize the ideal. Success is found in finding out first, what can be done, and secondly, what has to be done, and then in doing all that can be done. In this complex world of today there is a place for each of you. May you find the proper station in life and strive to achieve and accomplish tasks that will attain victory for yourselves and humanity. Since you are the first class to graduate while I have been serving as your principal, this occasion is endearingly personal. Your contributions to our school have exemplified the spirit that goes along with cooperation and consideration of others in Hartford High School. The personal question “What’s the story?” which I have been accused of forever asking, will in later life be answered by you with terms of HAPPINESS and SUCCESS.
