rg .1 Mr. Smith, lnlispot advisor, looks through past lnlupot books with Editor-in-chief Catharine Crimmel and Assistant Lditor janet Hershberger. Getting into the write-that-copy-quick! routine of publications this year was Mr. XVilliam Smith, new Retro and lnkspot advisor. lnstructing classes in journ- alism and English rounded out his teaching schedule. Mr. Smith graduated from Ball State Teacher's College, re- ceiving his B.A. degree. Discovering the practical aspects of publishing a newspaper were the junior staff and reporters, as they took over the Inkspot following the senior stalls special Christmas issue. ln preparation for their responsibilities as staff members, the juniors wrote stories, made sample layouts and analysed city newspapers as a part of their class work. In publishing the live issues of the second semester Inkspot, the junior staff learned to cope suc- cessfully with final deadlines, emergency layout and copy changes and last second scoops. These issues in- cluded an eight page tourney edition and a spring April fool edition. Aiding the stall in delivering copy to the Fairmont News, where the paper has been printed for the past year, was Mrs. Willitlmson, who lives in Fairmount. X I lnlcspoters Experiment ABOVE: Judy W'illiams, news editor, draws up the front page layout as Ellen Lefcuurt, assistant features editor, and Carolyn Brose, features edi- tor, make plans for their page. It can become rather tedious-making those exact to the 'n'th degree draw- ings of mechanical fittings over and over again. But without this practice and training the student can never become the architect or mechanical engineer he aspires' to be. ln nearly every field very little can be accomplished without add- ing training and practice to the other aspects of study :md learning.
