L Drama Ancl Speech Encourage Creative Expression In his English, literature, speech and dramatics classes, Mr. George Tolson prepared upperclassmcn for college work. I-Ie also sponsored and directed the junior and senior class plays, Men Are Like Streetcarsn and I Remember Mama. George college-is-rough Tolson attended Indiana University and has acquired his B.A. and M.A.T. degrees. The high school dramatics club, which had its be- ginning last spring, continued this year with many varied activities. The Thespian Society, whose purpose is to produce plays and train talent, not only in acting but also in stage craft, is sponsored by Mr. George Tolson. Netting the group about S40 was their production of the Broadway play, You Canit Take It XWith You. One act plays presented by club members for civic organizations were How To Choose a Secretaryf, and Why I Am a Bachelor. Besides the plays, they also dramatized several various skits, one being a parody of Steve Alle-n's Man on the Street, at the Christmas program. Officers this year for the organization were Frank Cunningham, president: Ada Hoffman, vice-president: Marilyn Klepfer, secretary: Carrie Atkins, treasurer and Dave Bennett, sergeant-at-arms. In dramatics class students must develop the ability to express themselves creative- ly and clearly.
