TEACHERS! Appearing on the teaching staff this year were seven new faces. Among the new tudors, four lucky lasses and one lone male experienced their first year of teaching. Mr. Tolson had been broken in one year previously, while Mrs. Hartzell is a 1-l-year veteran. Assisting and sponsoring the 12 extra-curricular clubs was the way in which many of the instructors spent their few extra hours. Seventy students ex- tended it merei to two of the first year teachers as they joined the newly established organizations- G. A. A., and Dramatics. Another new look in extra- curricular activities was the girls' pep club sponsored by Miss Kasparek and occupying two sections of the gym with its 160 members. Aside from their roles as sponsors. the 3U-member teaching staff again assumed their primary purpose- that of passing on their knowledge to the students of H. C. H. S. Band members sported beaming smiles this year after raising 51,088 by selling band tags and stickers. This was the largest amount ever taken in on annual Band Tag Day. Garbed in their sparkling black and gold uniforms, the band members journeyed to the Bluffton street fair where they received a superior rating for the third consecutive year. At the district marching contest at Ft. Wayne, the instru- mentalists were awarded an excellent rating for their Showboat show. Entertaining the football fans and parade watchers, the high-stepping bandsmen marched in all kinds of weather and presented minor forms of rock 'n roll music at pep sessions and basketball games. Under the direction of Mr. Williana Fread, the band jour- neyed to Arcadia, -Iackson Central, and Ben Davis high schools as part of their April tour. Besides performing in the winter and spring concerts, the band worked many hours on their three contest numbers and after adding the final touches were awarded superior.
