You'll be late for class! What's our as- signment for today? Let's move on! Don't clutter up the halls. These are familiar phrases between classes at Hartford City High School, Classes begin at 8:20 in the morning. A full day contains seven periods, each of which is 55 minutes in length. A five-minute passing period is given between the classes. We are given an hour and twenty minutes for lunch. School ends at 4:00 in the afternoon. At the beginning of each period attendance is taken and all important announcements per- taining to class are made previous to the day's recitation. Some classes are divided into two parts, the first half given to recitation of the lesson previously assigned and the last half to study for the lesson for the coming day. However, most classes are given over to recitation for the com- plete period, as everyone's schedule is arranged to give the student study periods throughout the week. A variety of subjects is offered the pupil of our high school. Each individual signs for a definite course at the beginning of a semester and follows that course in choosing his subjects. Mathematics, English, science, history, commerce, and such usual subjects are offered. Extra elec- tives include music, art, shop-work, home eco- nomics, and health. The school year is divided into two parts called semesters and they in turn are divided into periods of 6 weeks, of which there are three. At the end of each six-week period a report on your progress in each subject is given. To the youth these portals of learning have been given: so may the youth enrich its mind for the future.
