,546 William Allingham in his poem The Fairies 5 T, 5 if wrote this stanza: elgff Up the airy mountain, Down the rush glen, We daren't go a-hunting For fear of little men, Wee folk, good folk, 'Trooping all together: Green jacket, red cap, And White oWl's feather! The little men mentioned therein were once thought of as vexatious pixies. Now We regard them as gremlins. Their Women folk are fifinellas and their children are widgets, Some gremlins are rollicking and fun-loving: others are mischievous and take elfish delight in tempting us or causing us to fail to meet ex- pectations. How convenient to say the gremlins are responsible for failure to arrive at school on timeg for failure to complete assignments on time, for failure to be attentive: for failure to maintain good health, for failure to triumph in an athletic contest. May We hope for all the pupils and friends of Hartford High a closer acquaintance with the more serious and good-natured gremlins so that there may be better hunting in 1945. Clifford L. Pribble.

I I It took a war to introduce us to the char- acter that we had been looking for during all our school life. The war finally furnished somebody to take the blame for all our errors and misdemeanors: ah, yes-the grem- lin in its various forms. You've heard about the gremlin on the production front. You know how he screws the nuts in the wrong place. And the grem- lin is responsible for just as much trouble on the warfront. He drills a hole in the gas tank just when one of our boys goes into a power dive. Well, we have his brothers who cause plenty of troubles in our illustrious educational institution. Do you know why lim was sleeping dur- ing that profound lecture? Do you know why Evelyn pulled her gum out of her pretty mouth in English class and caused the wrath of our ever-understanding instructor to des- cend upon her? It's unnecessary to cite more examples: you know 'how to feel for us now. It was all the gremlin's fault. But with the kind assistance of our facul- ty we're beating those gremlins. In every department of our school we have them on the run. Yes, grernlins with their impish tricks can't remain long when the alert stu- dents of Hartford High decide to rid our school of all traces of these elfish fiends. Lfifgf W-
