THE CLASS 0F 1943 Wasn't it some old and wise sage -a Greek philosopher, perhapsnwho said, There will be a time when a body of seniors shall rise and put the whole world 'strictly on the beam '? And maybe it was Galileo who looked to the stars and shouted, Behold! I see in the future a senior class that is really 'hep'! Wise men through the ages have kept their eyes peeled on the future and their noses in every classroom, unquestionably in quest of this superior society of seniors. But this senior class slipped up on them. Not intentionally though eoh, no! They have been attempting since the first grade to con- vince their conductors of their super-intellect. The cause has become so desperate during this, their last year, that some ot the more courageous and daring have donned those un- touchable, droopy, white symbols of senority. Certain individuals ipractically the whole class, as a matter of factl have thrown aside their usual role of dignity and are cast as slap- tiappyf' iWhat price one will pay for suc- cessll But alas! The senior cords have long since passed the stage of tattle-tale gray. The seniors have grown slap-happy -and not voluntarily. Underclassmen fthe lowest form of humanity? have ceased bowing, and will inherit the right to dominate the next under- classmen. President . .,.,.,,. Ray Pemberton Vice-President .... Epitaph By GLORIA N EWBERY This graduating class of 43 Have vowed forever and ever to be Faithful and true and ever abide By the rules and laws of Hartford High. We have come to this school for four years long lEVGI'1 though at times we thought it was wrongly Our teachers dear were much concerned And tried to see that We studied and learned. We tried at times our best to be, But 'twas sometimes hard for our teachers to see. They would scold and stand us in the hallf And we knew then our grades would fall. But we must not be always sad For we can think of good times had And as we leave this school so proud We will shout its praise, grand and loud. Motto: Labor Conquers All. Colors: Blue and White. Flower: Peony CLASS SIING lWords and music by Martha Willmanl We're sorry to say good-bye To dear old Hartford High, But through the world We must wend our way And all must do their part. We're all amidst a tragedy Heard all the world around, So we must use our education In the air or on the ground. We'll miss all your happy faces And all our teachers dear, Miss junior proms and class plays And all our friends with tears. But there's a job that we must do As all of you know, too. We'll make you hear of us: We'll make you proud of us, Dear old Hartford High!
