Ill? llllll I llY'I'lIi I Every outstanding production owes a great share of its success to its backer, Without his aid and direction through the trying months, it could never hope to have a lasting run. We of Hartford High School look to Mr. Good as our backer and gratefully thank him for his pa- tient work in turning us amateurs into stars. With- out his good judgment in the rearrangement of our program, this production would long ago have gone on the rocks. lt is a very comforting feeling to know that there is someone behind us who is forever looking out for the good of his stars. There are always those assistant directors behind the great symphonies, who eagerly share the burden of smoothing the weird sounds of the practice rehearsal into harmonious accord, a sym- phony of real merit. Our assistant director, Miss Borden, has patiently listened to our wails and dis- couragement, and has conscientiously cheered us on. Her interest in us has been directed both toward our present and future welfare. She has aimed for just a little more perfection in each player than most assistant directors dare dream of. We hope she has hit her mark and we shall do our best to prove it in our future careers.

BBB IlI-llElf'l'0llt.' Behind every successful musical organiza- tion there must be a conductor who is willing to give untiringly in his effort to blend the feel- ings, interpretation, and desire of each separate member into a modulated whole. ln Mr. Wagner we find all the necessary qualities of leadership plus a patriotism that each of the pupils would do well to follow. Every successive civilian defense measure has found Mr. Wagner ever a more eager and valuable servant to his country. He has asked nothing of the students that he has not given a hundred-fold himself. The prime factor of a well organized school is a perfectly operating School Board. We have been unusually fortunate this year in having a board of such fine, competent business men whose every thought is for the welfare of H. C. H. S. Dennis Guy has served conscientiously as president of the Board for 1943. Secretary Raymond Maddox has carried on efficiently this term . Elmer Lucas has continued another successful year as Treasurer of the School Board. Miss Lelia Lewis has served as clerk of the School Board for many years. This in itself speaks for her efficiency and competency.
