Burl Shook, assistant coach and athletic director, directs the sports of those younger hopefuls of the Junior High School . . . is a graduate of Miami University . . . was ac- tive in baseball and basketball . . . was athletic coach at Lib- erty, Indiana for five years. H. L. Crouse continues suc- cessfully to teach the boys in the sports of swimming and tennis . . . his life saving classes, they say, are really doing things. THE BOYS' SPORTS With constant addition of sporting blood of newcomers every fall and spring . . . the school is never without a good team in any type of sport . . . wide-spread sports program . . . intramural tennis . . . basketball . . . ping-pong . . . swimming . . . track . . . 'varsity basketball . . . baseball . . . tennis. ir No tennis team was formed . . . intramural teams established in the grades of Junior and Senior classes . . . more than thirty boys participated in singles and doubles matches. if Swimming enjoyed by all classes . . . several boys, under the supervision of Mr. Crouse, passed the difficult Red Cross Life Saving tests . . . participating were Fred Gross, Paul Johnson- baugh, Mac Myers, and Dick Sinclair, Harold Fuller, Richard Gross, Gerald Wentz, and Richard Roderick. ir Eight teams formed in intramural basketball in both Junior League and Senior League . . . under leadership of Mr. Crouse and Mr. Connelly . . . about forty-two boys participated in each organization . . . at the end of the season the Holsteins were vic- tors in a tourney in the Senior League . . . in the Junior League, the Panthers came out on top. TI-IE GIRLS' SPCJRTS Girls' sports at Hartford City High School are carried on this year entirely as intramural contests by the Girls' Athletic As- sociation, under the direction of Mrs. Herbaugh, supervisor of girls' physical education . . . uk' Forty students eagerly responded to the call for membership in G. A. A .... Marsha Moore, President . . . Gloria Pruden, secre- tary and 'treasurer . . . A' The goal of this organization is to foster good sportsmanship . . . develop motor skill and mental strength through development in character and manner . . . and in this way add to their own lives the great enjoyment of association with others . . .
