':, 4-if fr ' '95-of ,xv 19?RETROl-33 Class History N September, 1929, with a hundred and thirty-five other contestants, I started on an airplane race around the world of education. VVe started from the Hartford City High School hangar at 8:30 one morning. As searchlights to guide us on our first lap, which was our fresh- man year, vve elected Ray Lenon, presidentg Richard Dee, vice-president: George Sparks, secretaryg and June Dennison, treasurer. Each con- testant received new energy and enthusiasm when a ray of sunshine in the form of a party held at the Washington Inn crossed our path. Miss Fosher and Mr. Warner as guardian angels kept us posted by radio con- cerning the weather conditions, including cyclones and electric storms. On our second lap, the sophomore year, Robert Place, president: Richard Dee, vice-president: Margaret Labig, secretaryg and Helen Gar- diner, treasurer, acted as our search lights and guiding posts. Each of us was inspired to put forth greater effort when we learned of our suc- cess in winning the 1931 Retro Campaign: but the boys were lagging a little, and to prove they were not to be beaten, gave a party for the girls, with music from our dear old Alma Mater to entertain us. To relieve our former guides we were again forced to elect new search lights on our third lap, the junior year: Robert Place, president. Betty Hill, vice-president, Ruth Snell, secretary, and Kenneth Dorton, treasurer. At this same time Miss Furney took the place of Miss Fosher as weather forecaster. As tokens of our identities as contestants in this race, we each ob- tained a ring to mark us the rest of our days. We scored a marked vic- tory, aided by several sophomore and senior fans, in the successful pro- duction of a musical comedy, Page the Prince. At the end of this lap we entertained our senior friends at a dinner-dance, the junior-sen- ior prom. Q NVhen we started on the last lap of our journey, we had just about a hundred contestants, the rest having been lost in smash-ups, mix-ups, and crack-ups, none being very serious. On this lap NVarren Atkinson, president: Harold Shoemaker, vice-presidentg Yula Minneman, secre- tary and Helen Gardiner treasurer acted as our search lights. To obtain money to continue this Journey vve held a magazine subscription campaign gave a class plav and sold candv Berny Bates and Maro Pursley were our ever faithful candy girls To let our fans know that everything was O lx and that vve appreciated their unfailing support we entertained a large number of them with The Big Broadcast, an impersonation of some of the famous radio stars Having made a good beginning aftei the Class Day Baccalaureate, and Commencement exercises we departed to continue our long journey of life around the vvorld alone by N' l gi L1 f ,-, 1 3 ' , , .
