It ts not the academic ability of our student body we have won few scholarships It is not the physical ability of our teams we have won few cups It ts not the academic achievement of our faculty we have no Ph D degrees It ts not the smoothness and decorum of our student body you may see better in other schools I is not a loud and strong school spirit ours ts not Ureaterthan many others It ts not the diversity of our program most schools today surpass us tn that Yet HCS has something of great value It ts an intangible but tt ts there as surely as the sun will use over Rowe htll tomorrow It ts a something that makes our Seniors on their annual trip year after year keep with tn the bounds of good behavior and sttll have a memorable time It is something that makes students who move from the district to pay their tuition from their own money It is a something you may nottce on the relaxed friendliness on the faces of the students in the friendly attitude between students and faculty It ts a some thing that makes the students of our little school turn in nearly as mucn money for a project like UNICEF as all the thousands of a neighboring large city It is a somethtng that causes visitors time after time to remark on the friendly atmosphere Class of 58 you tn your daily ltves at school have contnbuted to this spirit that is ours to a greater extent than you may realize A glance into your home room at noon and a visitor might under stand what I mean You are a typical HCS class and that to my way of thinking is a real compliment Best Wishes to all the class of '58l Mr Van - ' . t . . . - . I ' Football Although this was only the second year that we have participated in this sport and only two of the sixteen candidates had played before the team made great progress and showed continuous improvement The season s sched ule was terminated after three games because of sickness throughout the area but prospects for the 1958 season are very encouraging Basketball The season is just two-thirds over as this book goes to press. Thus far the Tanagers have won three games and lost nine while the Junior Varsity has won four and lost eight. What the team lacks in size is made up in spirit. Losing only two seniors from the Varsity, we have great hopes for them next year. Baseball With only eleven boys reporting for baseball last spring, the team com- piled a record of five wins and four losses for the season. The team placed third in the league standings. Returning to form the nucleus for this year's nine will be J im Springer, John Osbome, Bill Connors, Web Chapman, Ray Patten, Louis Smith, and Daryl Fowler. Junior Varsity Basketball V01 Slfty 1mL0f T5 Cheefleade Junwr H Lgh Basketball Too often we are inclined to take the duties and responsi brlmes of the members of the Board of Education for granted The seniors wish to take this opportunity to call attention to the many hours of conscientious effort, the many personal sacrifices made by each Member, and their consistent efforts to 'Make a Good School Better.
