'Z 2'1- Dedication Years march on as a never ending army of memories. As these years continue to pass in review, we, the observers of this parade of time, are enriched by the sights we seeg the voices we hearg and the experiences we under -go. It is with this thought that we, the class of 1957, humbly and with deep sin- cerity, dedicate this yearbook to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Davis. This dedication is not merely a recognition of two people who have guided us in thought, word, and deed. It is more a public token of appreciation for allowing us to share a part of our lives with them. We know that their satisfaction will be in knowing that their teachings have contributed to the basic foundations of our fu- ture lives. Be this Yearbook so dedicated to you Mr. Albert Davis and you Mrs. Betty Davisg teachers who taught, leaders who guided, and friends who befriended us. 2 ,X f X A X X x 2 5 , ' x it 5' I7 x Alma Maier Mid the mountains high and rugged, Stands our noble school. Many new experiences awaited us and we took full advantage of them. The girls became eligible for the Glee Club and Future Homemakers of America. Imagine how proud we were when told that Antionette Roskowski had been elected to the office of the Vice -Presidency of the Future Homemakers of America IGP' resenting the State of Pennsylvania. This was the beginning of our huge manuscript of memoirs. More national honors were bestowed upon us when Joan Mallis was awarded recognition in a national high-school poetry contest for the entry of her peom, Sunset, Sports captivated our boys during this busy year as well it did the girls. Ten of our girls were chosen for the Junior Varsity Cheerlead- ers. With the formation of a Student Government, four of our members qualified both scholastically and socially for membership: Faith Conway, Dorothy Sundy, Antionette Roskowski, John Salsburg. Aesthetically, our school was enriched by the inception of a band tmder the direction of Mr. Ostroskie. Our class contributed five of the original ten members: Leonard Sincavage, John Salsburg, Ardith Stubblebine, Patricia Offshack, and Dorothy Sundy, This was the foundation we had built for our big step into our new house, The Senior High School. Our sophomore year was brighten- ed once more by the announcement that Dorothy Sundy had emerged as one of the four finalists in the. Employ the Handicapped con- test. Our activities were now of a senior nature. Antionette Roskowski and Patricia Offshack were elected to the Senior Varsity Cheerleading squad. John Salsburg made the Senior Varsity Basketball team while John Finnegan and Donald Barkasy were appointed managers. Mr. Davis guided our ship during our Junior year which will always be remembered as one of the most memorable. Our big event was the Junior-Senior Prom, with the theme, Springtime Serenade. Shelia Stubblebine was crowned Queen of May. September, 1956, we took the unofficial oath of office as Seniors. A dream came true for all of us. We were introduced to our class advisors Mrs. Symons and Mr. Ostroskie. Elected as class officers were, John Salsburg, President, Donald Barkasy, Vice Presi- dent, John Neizgoda, Secretary, Thomas Brozena, Treasurer. Echoes, our Yearbook was placed under the development of Editor Pat Offshack, Co-editor Marilyn Jesse, Photography Antion- ette Roskowski, Business Manager Faith Conway, Co-Business Mana- ger Margaret Crawford, Typists, Margaret Crawford, Pat Mikulski, and Dorothy Welch. Our social activities seemed to be filled with new excitement, anxiety and expectations. On October 24th., our Masquerade Dance uncovered new personalities. On December 12th., 'The Senior Mistletoe Hop was honored by Santa Claus. February 6th, displayed talents before unknown with the presenta- tion of the class play The Perfect ldiot. One week later, the Sweetheart Dance was held and the Queen of Hearts and her attendants honored. The Juniors honored us at their annual Prom and the Queen of May was crowned. This event preceeded Moving Up Day on May 24th. Exciting, but realistic were the next few days of our trip to New York, back to Harter, up and down the aisles in rehearsals and finally, Graduation Day, June 4th., 1957. Our School Journey ended, a new journey beginning, we the Senior Class of 1957 face the future with great Enthusiasm, Cour- age and Faith, Faith in the world, and people, but mostly Faith in ourselves, for within Ourselves, Our Future Lies. Class Poem T'was only yesterday, it seems, We greeted our school, with hopes and dreams. A home to us for many years, Perhaps that's why we'11 leave in tears. The friends we 've made the things we've done, Have brought us together, and made us one. We are molding our lives, for the future you see, For what the child is , the man will be. Some have found love, but greater still, Hatter you've given us, understanding and will. To go ahead, to be strong and wise, For ahead, not behind, our future lies. To weather the storm, though the winds be strong, To hold our heads high, when hope is gone. We'll dream of days, long gone by, But we'll dream most, of Harter High. Class of 5'7 Class Song CTune: True Lovej We sing of dreams and of memories, Shared with you, Harter High. Dreams we pray will some day come true, Blessed from fears, Through the years. In our thoughts we'l1 not forget the things you taught us to do. We leave you sadly and say goodby Harter, Harter High. The halls we walked through with friends we knew, Harter High, Hatter High. Brought joy and laughter and sorrow too, I-larter High, Harter High, In classes day after day we mastered our books, and teachers too, To all these memories we sadly cry, Harter High, Goodby. Class Prophecy It is a warm, Spring day in thc year 1969. The place: Item Temple Country Club. Our senior class of 1957, is holding their first class reunion. Twelve years have passed since the day we waved farewell to our Alma-Mater and classmates. Oh! Oh! quiet please! Our toastmaster, John Salsburg, is 'beginning to speak. John has established himself as a Chemical Engineer and is quite busy in his new profession. John is addressing the group and is explaining that Professor James Gensel and his secretary Marion Keller are detained in Africa, and will be unable to attend this reunion. My attention is attracted to a vivacious blonde, attired in a black, evening gown, sitting near the end of the table. To my surprise, that is Barbara Zionkowski. Barbara is reported to have hired Louise Kulp as her private seamstress. The former Dorothy Lewis, now Mrs. Daniel Hrivnack, is chatting with Pat Mikulski a well established owner of a garage chain. As I continue to glance, my eyes rest upon a very handsome Major Thomas Brozena. Privates Wil- liam Jones, William Bethel and Albert Pardington have escorted the Major to this reunion and are now in a discussion on their many experiences: Peeling potatoes, polishing shoes, and sleeping, still their favorite sport. Speaking of sports, a loud crash was just heard outside. The report is that John Niezgoda had arrived in his new sports car but couldn 't stop fast enough. Well John will send for a new one from his factory. The attractive girl arriving with John is Doctor Marilyn Jesse. Marilyn is much in demand due to John's recurring accidents. Sitting stately at our table is a representative of American Airlines Faith Conway. Joan Mallis is seen hurrying from table to table placing the favors which were made by her students in the elementary grades at Nanticoke. Geraldine Ronczka who matriculated at college with Joan, is also quite proud of the work contributed by her kindergarden students. Seated to one side of the room are three use to be happy service girls: Arlene Purvin, Ardith Stubblebine, and Marilyn Wanchisen. Arlene seems to be complaining about her old-maid role. Ar- dith can 't seem to grab enough food in one hand and is using both. Marilynjust can't eat because ofher ulcers. Glancing across the room, Dick Stadts is telling Shirley Miller, his assistant, how they are going to expand his fish hatchery. Joe Boney manager of Boney's 54 8: 1Ogt stores is seen dictating to his two secretaries, Yvonne Lus- hefski and Julianna Przywara. I understand that Leanard Elvis Sincavage has made quite a hit in the theater. His favorite past time is cutting locks from his hair for screaming girl followers. Arlene Brace who manages her own dairy farm, is discussing the chicken farming business with Alma Redmond who married a poultry farmer. Coming through the door at the far corner is a big hulk of man named Don Barkasy, Heavyweight Champion of the World with his manager John Finnegan. Seated to my left is Pat Offshack. Pat has made her mark in the world as a surgical nurse. With Pat is Bernice Hudick her faithful and efficient secretary. I see that Dorothy Sundy, well known designer is talking new creations with her vivacious model Dorothy Welch. To my right, Margaret Crawford has taken time out from her police duties in New York City to come to the reunion. At the head of the table, Antionette Roskowski is seated with her husband Gerald Ostroskie, our ad- visor and also Mrs. Catherine Symons and her husband. Oh! Who am I? Just Mother Time, watching over her flock. urn f ' 'Wy My flffn' H09 wfpadvw 41' ss Smmwem-fsssumm VWWH 'WWW 'fs' ww 2 4 'W 'Q i sd, , f I A Q1 '94 Q qv., sw .
