But soon we made new friends, And still we kept our old, Yet we will always be true To the Blue and the Gold. We were all very happy until One day ln February of 1948 When the terrible tongues of fire came, And our school suffered a sorry fate. But when we returned again We found everything so fine, Everything was more beautiful than before, 'Twas as if help had come from the Divine. Soon we rnust leave thee, Alma Mater, And we shall hate to leave, Because you have given to us All vue had hoped to achieve. Then as we go along life's way, Each in pursuit of his dream, We will remember our life at school, And always be loyal to thee. Rita Lukavitch . 1 1 ,ab- MM, -i,P,,, gym, ll fl. D.. In September of 1946, sixty freshmen reported to the high school. Although we had looked forward to this moment so long, now that it had come, we were a little fearful and greatly be- wildered. We came from many schools, namely West Nanticoke, .Tohnson's Green, Grand Tunnel, and Hunlock Creek. We were further bewildered by being divided into two sections, away from our intimate friends and surrounded by seemingly unfriendly strangers. These seemingly un- friendly strangers shortly became our staunchest friends. The highlight of our freshman year was a weiner roast held at the residence of Mary Ami Pavlock. Other than that we had no social events. After the summer vacation we started our Sophomore year with fifty-one members in the class. This was the year of the disasterous fire which destroyed the main section of the High School building. Grade school students were shifted to the Grand Tunnel building. Many willing hands soon adapted the adjacent grade school to high school use. The fall of 1948 fonmd forty-nine members of the class returning to school for their Junior year. We entered a rebuilt school with numerous improvements therein. The library and the homemaking rooms had been enlarged. All in all, it was a vastly improved school, much better than before the fire. Toward the end of the first semester, popular Jack Brocious entered the Navy. A party was given in his honor. The Blue and Gold Bulletin was published for the first time since 1946 by the Junior class. Bernadine Yudichak was elected Harvest Queen by the student body. The year was climaxed by the Junior-Senior Prom which we had looked forward to for a long time. The Senior year, 1949, saw our original freshman class of sixty decimated to forty-two. The class was organized and officers elected. Jerry Rowlands was elected President, William Crawford, Vice President, Mary Michak, Secretary, and Gene McKeown, as Treasurer. Christmas cards were sold to help defray class expenses. Violet Koscavage and Sarah Ann Rowe participated in the VOICE OF DEMOCRACY contest sponsored by the Jaycees of Plymouth. Sarah Ann had the honor of being selected the best contestant from the Larksville, Plymouth, Plymouth township and Huntington Mills area. ln November of 1949, Priscilla Lewis was elected as Harvest Queen. A joint Christmas party was held in the school auditorium by the Jimiors and Seniors. The voting for Student Council officers took place in January. Jerry Rowlands and Billy Crawford, both members of the Senior class were elected to the offices of President and Treas- urer respectively. The election for the May Queen was held in the beginning of March. Mary Michak had the honor of becoming May Queen. On April 24, a three act play was presented by the Senior Class under the direction of Miss Mary McCarthy and Miss Marie Stadts. As the days passed by, the moment we anticipated drew nearer and nearer and on the even- ing of June 2, the Annual Senior Class Night got underway. Presentations were awarded to all Seniors. The following week, on June 7, we bade farewell to our friends and teachers. .Iv-'A '1 ,Aj 1, ll!! 1 R 1 - Ju Claws. 03710 he-pc Jane Amos will model shoes, If she doesn't start singing the blues.
