Four Squads Make The Difference In order to give the chance of trying out to the girls involved in fall and winter sports, Miss Elenbaas, the cheerleading advisor, along with Athletic Director, Mr. Shepich, decided to have tryouts in the spring for Football season, and again in the fall for Basketball. While trying out, the perspective cheerleader was judged on poise, smile, stunt, one required jump and one of their own choice, a spirit poster, a group learned cheer, and an original cheer. Before the football players started practicing, the football cheerleaders were off to camp learning new cheers and stunts. While there, they took fourth and fifth place in the United States Cheerleading Association Competition. The cheerleaders put on the Sweethearts Ball, sold carnations, computer matchups, and spirit pins to help pay for the new markers, and other needs. Thanks to these markers, there was an abundant supply of spirit posters on hand for all the fall and winter sports. Lots of time and preparation went into the pep assemblies, and according to Miss Elenbaas, were the best we've had yet!

Moving Along! Mindy Clark takes the ball down the court for a basket. Lady Pirates Shoot For A Victory The varsity girls basketball team finished with a 7-14 record with only one returning starter. Tammy Henry and Amy Huntington were selected by the team as captains. Mary McVicker grabbed the all-conference title this season and Mindy Clark received honorable mention. Within the team itself Mary McVicker was selected as the most valuable player and Sue Alvesteffer as the most improved.
