RAMSEYER Through genuine understanding and unusual service, Joan Ramseyer has aided us in developing our yearbooks through the past years. Mrs. Ramseyer has the rare ability to stimulate ones best effort in English, if not to make English highly enjoyable, at least to make it endurable. We wish to dedicate this year’s Hartian to the person who made it possible. Through hard work, understanding, interuptions of her journalism class, and many headaches, we have produced this book. Although we cannot fully express in words, we have tried to show how much we deeply appreciate her help. SETTING ACT II THE SCENE . . A good example of that was their last home football game of the year against the Hesperia Panthers. Hart was behind 20 0 going into the second half and instead of giving up, they came back to score a touch down and a field goal. Hart's only win of the year was against North Muskegon. This is the first time Hart has ever beat the mighty Norsemen in 16 years! Congratulations go to Michael Fuller for being named Hon-orable-mention All Conference line backer, and offensive guard. J.V. FOOTBALL HAS ALL THE INGREDIENTS FOR A GREAT TEAM Nut only vvas our football team blessed with quantity, but it can boast of quality also. Many individuals found out what athletics are all about and all represented th school very well. Through efforts during the off-season, the players will improve their skills and be ready to improve their record next season. GOLF TEAM LIKES TO PUTT AROUND The golf team didn't know until the third week of the season that there would be no conference competition this year. This was the result of a late entry by one of the schools. The main goal of the season then became the regional tournament, which was to be held at Oceana Country Club, our home course. On an extremely windy October 15. the tournament was held and we finished third out of eleven schools, which would have sent us to state, but we tied for third. Calvin Christian won the tie-breaker and they made the trip to state. Greg Herremans had a very good day at regionals and finished second, out of 55, with an 82. This earned him a trip to Marshall and a shot at the state title. After a slow start at state, his caddy. Mike Mull, got him straightened out and Greg carded a respectable 88. capping an excellent year for Greg and the team. DISTRICT CHAMPS!! For the second straight year in a row the Varsity Volleyball team has taken the District title. Much of the credit goes to their coach Ms. Brandel. The girls finished 12-3 overall and 9-3 in the conference. Hart finished second in the conference. The team was led in serving by Rita Merten, spiking by Ane Farmer, setting by Tammy Brimmer and Mindy Ackely, and blocking by Lori Weigand and Ane Farmer. HOMECOMING WAS A LITTLE WET This year’s Homecoming was exciting for all who participated and watched the festivities. It was also very wet. Umbrellas were the most common sight this year. Despite the rain on the day of the game, the students had fun participating in Spirit Week. Punk Rock Day was the most astounding, and people found out that the students have a strange sense of imagination. The entire football team participated in Toga Day even though it was tough to recognize them with masks on. The Pirates took on Ravenna this year, which inspired some good floats. It was a tough decision but the Seniors came out first, followed by the Sophomores, Juniors and Freshmen. Back in October, Lowell Rinker came to see the staff to tell a little about the Herald-Journal and explain about Journalism. Susan Harrison, from the Muskegon Chronicle, also came to talk to the class about reporting. So the Hart Beat staff is now concentrating on more in depth articles to produce a quality paper. HAR TIAN STAFF MAKES BEST SELLER There have been a lot of changes in the making of this year’s Hartian. One is the staffs new advisor, Mrs. King. The class also moved from Mrs. Ramseyer’s room to the library. A darkroom was added, which saved the staff money, plus everyone had the opportunity to learn how to take and enlarge pictures. A yearbook assembly was also presented to preview what was going to be in this year’s Hartian. Judee LaPorte, Ane Farmer and Robin Wilcox were the only returning staff members. They took on the task of breaking in rookies Lori Wiegand, Mike Burns, and Kris Kokx. Thanks to their help, the group is prepared to attend yearbook camp this summer, and begin a new Hartian next fall. PEP BAND’S GOT THE BEAT The Pep Band added spirit to the Pirates Fans all through the year, while at the same time entertaining them with their abundance of talent. They played at pep assemblies. Boys Basketball games, and some Girls Basketball games. Often they wore hats or acted strangely to set themselves apart from the rest of the crowd. The Han High School Pep Band is advised by Mr. Metzler. Just think how bland (or beige — for all you Vais) our school would be without our awesome Pep Band. First row L to R: C. Eckholm, K. Ski Club members looked forward co their Monday nights on the slopes, but members were being continually let down. Each Monday arrived but unfortunately the snow didn't! This is the second winter we’ve had to wait for a skiing trip. Mr. Heglund has been with the Ski Club for 11 years. He’s served as advisor since 1972. SAY YES TO MICHIGAN Because of the lack of Senior Michigan History Club members there was no Senior Club this year. The few members were let down, but Mr. Newkirk could see no point in taking two or three members on a five day trip. This year the Michigan History Club sold cheese and sausage to raise money for their trip up north. Mr. Newkirk is the advisor for the club and since he also teaches Michigan History, he lets the kids know from firsthand experience about the place they visit. 76 Front row: Tammy Henry.
