Every bit of improvement helps. — Natalie Mason I'm glad they’re trying to make the school look better. — Lisa Gracia Extreme excitement! — Steve Price I feel that it makes the school look much more organized. — Donis Whitney I don’t like blue lockers. For one reason, they're blue. They should’ve painted them red for that’s our school color. The benches were a good idea I think. They help out a lot. — Russell Mason I think it’s nice to have these changes. It’s better than having the same thing over and over. — Trade Howe Above: Kevin Foster, Kathy Schaner and Lori Taylor watch Don Zwade as he struts his stuff by the new benches. It's been a way of life for the past twenty years as she has diligently corrected the grammar errors of two generations of Hart High School students and inspired their appreciation for literature. A graduate of Central Michigan University, Mrs. Flynn did substitute teaching at Hart while raising her son, John. She started as a regular teacher at Hart in 1960 and has found the job an enjoyable experience.” After school hours might find Mrs. Flynn working in her garden, painting a seascape, baking bread, or traveling with her husband, John. Hart High School students have indeed been lucky to reap the benefits of Mrs. Flynn’s dedicated instruction over the past twenty years. 17 Up Close And Personal — A Look At Top left: John Bohrmann, Kim Barnes, and April Watkins are having a whale of a time. A Tribute To Paul Keigley Paul Keigley, shy, quiet, soft spoken, lost his life in a car accident December 5, 1981. Paul came from a family of nine children and had to accept a great deal of responsibility. He helped support his family by working at the Glass Chalet. Paul quit school last year, but then decided to finish his education and entered the Alternative Education class. Had he not passed away it is likely he would have finished school. Losing a classmate is always difficult and Paul will be missed by all who knew him. Senior Directory A DON ADAMS MIKE BOWEN ALLEN DAY Football 1; Basketball 1 2; Golf 2 3. When they're cheering at away games they represent the school along with the players. The cheerleaders also set good examples for others to follow. This year the J.V. and Varsity Cheerleaders did a good job supporting the teams and showing school spirit. They performed many skits to entertain at assemblies. They also made posters, organized projects to raise money, and practiced hard. What would the school and teams do if they didn’t have any cheerleaders? Joany Spencer and Karyn Kuipers played tough defense also throughout the season. Kuipers averaged 3 assists to lead the team. Vickie Herrygers received Honorable mention All-Conference. Ane Farmer received All-Conference, All-Area, and 5th team All-State. Bonstell, Eisenlohr, and Schram played well. Gayla May was a good all around player. The team had high spirits all season long. The good coaching and enthusiasm of the team proved to be a large determining factor for the success that the team obtained throughout the year. Hart wrestlers found new hope towards the end of the season and placed 2nd in the conference behind M.C.C. and also took a 2nd in districts. It will be one Homecoming not many will forget. Our annual spirit week was a success as usual. Many participated in Togo Day, a new addition to spirit week. An unfortunate disaster to the sophomore float removed it from competition. A smoke bomb caused the float to go up in flames just before the parade. Consequently, the senior float Whale on Sabers” took first place. Another unusual happening was to have the game on Saturday afternoon. Having the Homecoming in the afternoon seemed to bring more people out to watch the game. The bleachers were packed and the side lines were crowded with fired up spectators. Their enthusiasm was soon drowned by a sudden down pour of freezing rain. It made playing difficult and the Pirates lost a hard fought game to the Manistee Catholic Sabers, 7-6. By later that evening everyone had a chance to thaw out and were ready for dancing. The Homecoming dance was a success and everyone seemed to have a good time. 1981 Homecoming King and Queen Paul Cutter and Lisa Evers HOMECOMING COURT: Gabrielle Kerr, Kathy McVicker, Doreen Fitzpatrick, Rhonda Chapel, Renee Curtis, Tammy Perry, Lisa Evers, Toni Vers-chueren, Chuck VanBergen, Mark Verschueren, Jon Veurink, Jim Gale, Scott Greiner, Denny VanBergen, Paul Cutter, Pete Kronlein, John Curtis. This year could be the last year for the powderpuff teams because of the unnecessary roughness. Tackling, clipping, and bad language are only a few of the violations of the game. Cold weather was a bad disadvantage of the night. Lots of clothing was worn and hands felt like ice. Sophomores and juniors battled it out and the juniors were the overall champs with a score of 32-6. 100 Top: The senior powderpuff team does not pay any attention to what the coaches have to say. Spirit Club In Their Second Year The Spirit Club has been rolling for two years now. Monica Bray has taken over by being the president. The club helps to keep pep assemblies lively by putting on skits. They had a cake eating contest with a person in each grade as participants.
