This year it was truly a success with school spirit everywhere. The entire week was set aside for Homecoming preparations starting with posting up events of the week like: red and white day, 50's day, backwards day, outerspace day, and clash day. Also the classes were busy competing with each other to build the best float. After a week filled with hard work, it was announced that the Junior float took first place. Freshmen — second place; Seniors — third place; Sophomores — last place. During half-time it was announced that Lynn Greiner and escort Tim Lound, had been choosen 1978 King and Queen. Hart High had another exciting homecoming week. The only disappointment was the 26 to 12 defeat at the hands of the Ravenna Bulldogs. He has served as counselor for the last eight years, and has also coached football. Mr. Mikkelson has been a friend as well as counselor to many students. He has always had time for a problem, big or small, personal or academic. He is always there when students need someone to talk to. It is through his concern and guidance that many problems have been solved over the years. Mr. Mikkelson, we want to show our appreciation by dedicating this year's HARTIAN to you. Thank you for your dedication and service to the students of Hart High. Announcing The Class Of 1979 Senior Class Officers: President, Mike Herrygers; Vice-President, Jill Seyfred; Secretary, Brenda Malburg; and Treasurer, Sonya Alvesteffer. Class Highlights As we say so long to Hart High, we journey back to our past. Homecoming was always a big event in October. Janet Wilson was our representative our Freshmen year. The following year Lynn Greiner was chosen. Norma Munoz represented our class Junior year. Then, here we are as Seniors. Queen for 1978 Homecoming was Lynn Greiner. Her escort was Tim Lound. Other candidates were Julie Wilde, Listh Neefs, Lynn VanDenHeuvel, Patti Settler, Pam Gray, Snya Alvesteffer, and Darcy Weaver. The Prom and Junior-Senior Banquet were a success! With all the undone work and last minute decisions, it always paid off in the finish. Remember the Freshmen boys winning at Big Rapids? Or trying to get your dues in on time or pay interest? Or how about the late hours spent working on your term paper? As the Class of '79 walks down the aisle for the last time, they will be wearing burgundy and silver gowns, and carrying a red rose with white baby's breath. Their class song is Long and Winding Roads by the Beatles. The class motto is: Yesterday is already a dream, and tomorrow is only a vision, but today well lived, makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Instead of printing their own Hart Beat , they submitted articles in the HART JOURNAL. The class divided up and half of the group worked for the Journal. As times change so do traditional things. In the past, the yearbook came in the following fall, of the past school year. This year they met their deadlines and the books arrived in spring. Advisor for this year's yearbook was Mrs. Ramseyer. Enthusiasm = The Dance Groups THE DANCE GROUPS For the past three years Hart has had the treat of nine beautiful dancers, the Burmeister's Beauties. These girls choreograph dance numbers to popular hit songs. They create their own costumes and are well known for the blacklight dance numbers. This year is the last year for Burmeister's Beauties, for the group consists of all senior girls. The group has five original dancers of the nine who first organized. Alongside the Beauties is another up and coming group, Les Nouvelles. They also do dances and entertain the public. The groups have performed at banquets, conventions, at the Hi-Jinks, and for the past two years at their own dance concert. Of the next six games, they lost three of them by only one point. The Shelby game was quite a disappointment to everyone, but the Ravenna game proved tobe more upsetting because it was our Homecoming. The rest of the games were lost by very close margins. Chosen all conference were: Dave Dumonte, Mark Bailey, Tony Verschueren, Alex Slocum, and Steve Merten. The boys worked hard though, and placed 3rd in the conference. This year did prove to be victorious when Hart beat Shelby, 75-62, the first tme in seven years. Coach Wilson feels the season could have been better if the team had had more breaks. Too many close games with no breaks caused their record to be 7-5 in the conference. They see themselves as freshmen, young and scared, then as a sophomore, one who knows everything. Finally they come to their junior year, that busy time filled with plans for the greatest float again, the winning powderpuff team, and the highlight of the year, the Prom. And so as their junior year draws to a close, they look with eagerness and some apprehension to the coming school year, their final one at H.H.S. They'll begin their senior year knowing that theirs has been a class that, even though not always getting top honors, has always maintained a high standard of school spirit. The class of 1981 took a few more responsibilities as the word upperclassmen became a reality. They can look forward to their final years at Hart, striving for even higher goals and rewards. As they look back over their sophomore year, they can see many things that they can be proud of. This year's HARTIAN captured the diverse moods and took on some changes of its own. This year we decided to try something new, a spring book. Due to the decision of creating a spring book, we had to omit some activities. In making our decision, we took into consideration that if the HARTIAN was back in time for graduation, the seniors could have their classmates sign their books before they go off to college or wherever their future takes them. The HARTIAN staff consisted of Lisa VanderZanden, Misty Fay, Velma Vasquez, Janet Wood, Marla Littiebrant, Norma Vasquez, Martha Malburg, and Ruthann Traxler. Photographers were Paul Osborn, Geoff Stevens, Mr. Cunningham, Mr. Andersen, and Mark Kish. a ■ 1979 HARTIAN SUPPLEMENT GIRLS TRACK TEAM First row, Lori Tate, Nancy Curtis, Joany Spencer, Linda Bray, Tammy Perry and Shelly Scouten; 2nd row, Angie Forner, Mary Thocher, Amy Hodges, Gina Herrygers, Kathy Bowman, Monica Bray, Lynne Kronlein and Coach Margaret Byl.
