foreword Nearly four hundred years ago a Spanish writer created two figures who have become known throughout the Western world and whose characters have become symbols for two aspects of human nature. The hero, Don Quixote de la Mancha, represents man’s search for an ideal while his companion in his journeys, Sancho Panza, represents the practical outlook on life. In our own journey through school and on through life, none of us is completely like either character; sometimes one aspect is uppermost and sometimes the other. However, it is during our school years perhaps that we think more in terms of the ideal and dream of a better world, and resolve to put our energies to work to achieve it. For this reason we have chosen as our theme for the 1968 Hartian the figure of Don Quixote. We hope that by putting to use the knowledge, attitudes and skills which we have gained so far in our education, we can make into reality some of the impossible dreams of the past. Working, playing and studying together for four years, has transformed some hundred individuals into a group with a distinctive character. A yearbook is a book of memories, but more than that it is a book that reflects the personality of the students who have lived the experiences recorded in .its pages, The staff of the 1968 Hartian has given much time and thought to compiling a book which will tell the story of this school year, record the important events relating to the graduating class, and also reflect its spirit. 2

'Dedication It seems as though it were only a few short years ago when I used to look forward to a bedtime story and a chance to lick the cake bowl. But the years flew by and new things filled my desires . . . clothes, the use of the family car, dates, and MONEY. Yes, and you, Mom and Dad, were the ones who always shared these things with me. You laughed when 1 laughed, cried when I cried. You knew and understood that all these things were just a part of my growing stage. And so, Mom and Dad, I offer this dedication to you to express my appreciation for all the memories of your trust, confidence, wisdom, understanding, friendship; and for the love you have given me through these years.
