Board of Sducation Herbert Brandel, Herbert Hawley, Jack Corbin Treasurer; Tom Foster, President; Vivian Dorman, Secretary; Douglas Erickson, Lyndon Davis, Vice-President. To you, our Board of Education, we. Graduates of 1963, express our appreciation for your labors and time spent in our behalf. The new building has been a constant joy and pride to us, the first class to spend a whole year in it. Its architecture, furnishings, cleanliness, and atmosphere have been conducive to study. We hope to pass it on to the classes following in as good condition as we found it. No one, let alone yourselves, keeps a record of the hours taken from your other interests and devoted the business of the general supervision of educational problems and to the decisions of many questions involving various factors and personalities. As members of the agricultural, business, industrial and professional fields of endeavors, you have brought much knowledge, experience and many viewpoints into the educational realm -all valuable to us as students. 1963 REVIEW HART HIGH SENIORS Administration DAVIS and CORBIN RE-ELECTED TV IN HART SCHOOLS NEW TEACHERS At the annual school election in July Dr. Davis and Jack Corbin were re-elected to three year terms to serve on the Board of Education. The Board then chose Tom Foster as President. The Board is striving to maintain a high standard of education for all pupils in the district and to those who come into Hart. SHOP STUDIES ADDED The addition of an industrial arts department was a must when the new building was constructed. For the first time this year shop classes are being offered on a full time basis. The program is quite adequate for a beginning. A general shop type program in blueprint reading, general woodwork, metal work and electricity is offered. Advanced work in these and other areas will be added as needed. The five sections of beginning students are attaining the objectives as evidenced by the many interesting projects being undertaken by the pupils. The Central Michigan Educational Television Council has announced that the Hart Public Schools are among those using programs prepared at its direction and broadcast over local stations as part of their regular classroom instructional program. These lessons are video-taped by teachers in studios at C.M.U. and broadcast by Station WMTU channel 9 from Cadillac each weekday morning in the time period from 9:00 to 10:00. Classes being used involve most of school population and include: science for grades 5 and 6 and, also, for grades 7 and 8: a conservation program for use in either Junior or Senior High, arts and crafts for the elementary grades and American government and economics for the 12th grade. Most unusual is the 12th grade government program where the seniors meet for two hours on Tuesday and Wednesday and one hour on Friday to watch the television lectures and participate in class discussions. CURRICULUM STUDY Mr. Spratt Illness forced Mr. Spalding of Britton, our agricultural teacher, to resign at Christmas. The Board was successful in filling the vacancy with Mr. Tom Spratt. His home is in Bangor and he had just graduated from Michigan State University. Miss Sue Bellon in the English department married in February and resigned. A special study is being made of new methods of teaching Modern Math, Science and English and possible changes in the course of study for next year. Miss Ellen O'Donnell, a graduate of Michigan State, from Morency was hired to fill this vacancy. (Picture not available)
