HARTIAN I960 Senior Class Hart High School Hart, Michigan Foreword Life, like a jigsaw puzzle, is composed of many pieces -each a different shape and color-but all fit together to produce a picture. Some of these are beautiful, happy and satisfactory; others quite the opposite; still others mediocre. One's life is a correlation of inheritance, natural abilities and characteristics; of influences of home, school, community and church; of personal desires, ambitions and opportunities. No life is complete until each piece has been selected and fitted into its proper relation with all the other parts. In the Hartian of I960 an attempt has been made to fit all the various phases of school life into a completed mosaic for the school block of life. The Senior Class of Hart High School for 1960 presents its annual, HARTIAN 1960. Dedication Hubert Shinn Harry Caldwell To Mr. Shinn and to Mr. Caldwell, we the Senior Class of 1960, wish to dedicate our HARTLAN, as an expression of our sincere appreciation. To you, Mr. Shinn, for the many years of service you have given, both to us and those before. To you, Mr. Caldwell, for the understanding and help you so willingly give as our class advisor. Christian 54 Hart 51 (overtime) Track The Track record for 1959 was not imposing due to the loss of many excellent track men by graduation in 1958. Many of our new men, however, showed much future promise. Tom Worth, a Senior, was a consistent high place man in the mile race. Henry Contreras, a Junior, in the high jump and Larry Stevens, also a Junior, in the 880 yard dash placed high in the meets. At the Inter conference meet Contreras took first in the high jump with 5'9 jump. Stevens took first in the 880 with 2:6.7 record. Tom Worth placed second in the mile with a record of 4:55. In the regional meet Stevens placed first and Worth fourth. Participating in the state meet Stevens placed fourth. Awards were presented to Larry Stevens for 3rd year; to Tom Worth and Henry Contreras for 2nd year and to Richard Hasty, Mike McCarthy, Phil Syers, Geoff Robinson, Duane Van den-Heuvel, Kent Scouten, Dave Herrygers and Emory Curtis for first year. The staff regrets that no pictures are available for this annual of the Track and Baseball teams. All were first-year debaters. They ended the season of eight debates with a record of six victories and two losses. In the District Elimination Tournament they won to receive the District title and Banner awarded by the University of Michigan. Hart traveled to Michigan State University where they were defeated by Stockbridge in the Regional contest. HART. MICHIGAN The State Farmer degree is given to the top two percent of the total members of the FFA in the entire state. This year Hart has the honor of being one of the six top schools in the state in this regard by having these five State Farmers of which no high school has more this year. This is surely one accomplishment of members of Class 1960 of which our school can be proud. Seventh Grade BACK ROW: Joe Makin, Tom May, Tom Cook, Eric Jackson, John Makin, Mike Huff.
