The Shelby girls performed our installation of officers. At Christmas we had a party and packed a box of cookies to take to the County Convalescent Home. Some have attended the Regional and State conventions. We plan to send a girl to the FHA training camp. Up to this time we have done the advertising for Our Town and the three one-act plays. We visited the Hackley Art Exhibit in the fall and later this year we plan to visit another one. The remainder of our club meetings will be spent on projects for the guild room and on individual art work. Throughout the three years since its inauguration every loan has been paid back promptly. We are happy to have a part in assisting these boys to start farm projects. We have worked on our plantation, trimming and pruning the scotch and red pines and making new plantings. Our recreation program has been active with regular Thursday night recreation far all FFA boys. Our two basketball teams have played games with similar teams from other schools. This year our members were in three district contests and won three gold awards, the highest honors. Parliamentary procedure team took second and was not eligible for the regional. Public speaking with a first in the district lost out in the regional contest. The Farm Forum with a regional first will participate in the state contest. Plans for the annual FFA dance and the Father and Son banquet are underway. These are highlights of the year. Also on the first day of school we were hosts to the new and old students, making the first school day a successful one. Starting the year's activities was the annual Homecoming program of a pep rally, bonfire, halftime show, election of the Queen and her court and the Homecoming dance. Later in the football season the Council sponsored a Dads' Nite at the Hart-Reed City game. In December we sorted and distributed the individual pictures to each student. The Council and FHA sponsored the annual Sweetheart Ball . The choosing and crowning of the king and queen are the highlights. A juke box installed in the gym has provided the school with up-to-date records for the noon dances. The spring plans include a talent assembly, followed by several exchange assemblies with other schools; a twerp week in April and then a clean-up week starting with a bum's day and ending with a dress-up day and dance.
