Few people realize the time, energy and knowledge required to properly conduct the many phases of school affairs. We, Seniors, wish to extend our words of appreciation and thanks to each member. Superintendent FRED W. H. HALL Dear Seniors, Many of you will soon be employed to earn your living, some of you will be making plans to continue school, and others may be married and making a home. Whatever it is you will be doing, provided you have a reasonable interest in doing your best, you will discover, if you have not already done so, that to make progress you must be constantly learning. The fallacious idea that as a result of school attendance and study one amasses a fund of knowledge from which can be drawn the answers to all life’s problems has caused untold mischief. Graduation from school is neither the end nor is it the beginning for those who would achieve, it is but a stepping stone toward a richer fuller life. All of life is a learning situation affording constant opportunity for problem solving. Learning stops only with mental or physical death. Whether we will stop learning only when we pass to the great Beyond or whether we stop upon completion of school depends entirely upon each individual. Those who achieve are constantly challenged by repeated learning situations their life long. Sincerely yours. Fred W. H. Hall Superintendent Principal ROBERT L. WHITE To the young Men and Women of Hart High School: The Yearbook is the final organized effort of Seniors to record memories of activities and associations of their school life. Usually the true value of this effort is not recognized until later years. As you glance through your Hartian you will then realize that you have been unaware of the changes that occured in you as a result of your school year. Many will forget the dates learned in history or the formulas studied in Science, but who can forget the gains made in understandings, appreciations, friendships, and personality growth that took place during this brief period. Through it all will come a feeling of individual pride that comes only when a job has been well done. Robert L. White Principal Harry Bandy, B. S. Elise Dodge, A.B. Martha Engelberg, B. A luncheon was served followed by some games and a great “gab-fest.” The following was reported as true information. Don and John Alvesteffer have-become co-owners of the largest farm in Michigan. Although Ron Alvesteffer did not choose to join the above partnership, he is prospering very well on his own 175 acre farm. Wayne Anderson has become head butcher of one of the largest packing companies in Oceana County. Ron Barton who started at the bottom of the ladder is now principal of Hart High School. Dick Bates will be referee for the boxing championship bout tomorrow night at Madison Square Garden. Arlene Battice is working in the Oceana County Bank. Colleen Blackmer is married and is also the head nurse at the Hart Hospital. The United States Supreme Court recorder is Bud Brimmer. His shorthand and typing have really helped push him along. Wilma Bonstell is typing for the Hart Realty Company. Audrey Borreson is married and is giving piano lessons in her spare time. Don Brandel is now flying “flying saucers” over the sand dunes. Beverly Brubaker is Hart’s 5th grade teacher. It is impossible to make any of her pupils stay home unless he is sick. Barbara Chapman has moved to West Virginia where she is teaching the 6th grade. Sally Chesness has become head director of Michigan’s Girls’ State. Shirley Claeys is head bookkeeper for Rexall Drug Company. J oan Dailey is still trying to get the announcements out on time. However she is now doing it for Michigan State College. Gerald Dayharsh (Dr.) is one of the busiest ivory pullers in Los Angeles, California. Mary Dillingham is doing quite well for herself being the wife of a multi-millionaire. Bill Dorman has made Stokely Canning Company the largest company in Michigan. Truck driving is a very good business. Albert Hudson has been trucking fruits and vegetables from Florida to Michigan. Duane Johnson has taken over his father’s farm but he is still interested in cars. The United States and Russia have been getting along very good. Marlene Jorisson has been the ambassador to Russia the last 3 years. Blanche Lindsay runs and owns her own restaurant. You see more and more Ford cars every day because Bob Lipski owns and manages the Ford Manufacturing Company. Stanley Mast joined the army after graduation and is now a Second Lieutenant. Gale Smith was given the title of the best skier in the world at the last tournament in Switzerland. David Snell is preaching in the Methodist Church of Jackson. His congregation consists of mostly teenagers, you see, he hasn’t changed in appearance. One of Don Snyder’s horses won last year’s Kentucky Derby. Judy Ann Spencer was just voted the best secretary in Grand Rapids. During her spare time she rides her horses. Dixie Swihart is the best beautician in Hart. No question about it, just take a look at her beautiful daughter. Judy Taylor is the 1st trumpeter of the New York Symphony Orchestra. Joann Trommater is on tour in France. She is accompanied by Liberace. Jim VanDenHeuvel has one of the largest farms in Oceana County. Fruit Farming seems to be doing well. Bill Walker came to the reunion in the newest Cadillac. Mr. Shinn is the club sponsor and there are many activities throughout the year that the members of the F.T.A. take part in. Future teachers are organized into clubs in high schools and into chapters in colleges. There are about two thousand clubs in the United States and over five hundred chapters. The club here at Hart is a member of this nations wide organization. There are similar clubs in our neighboring high schools of Scottville and Muskegon. The officers of the Future Teachers Club of 1954-55 are President. The Future Nurses Club presents a way to interest high school students in personal and community health; to encourage them in finding out what nursing requires and what it covers; to help them decide wisely about professional or practical nursing as their career. Our club is composed of junior and senior high school girls who have indicated an interest in becoming nurses. They do not take a pledge to enter nursing. Several Activities have been planned for this school year. Visits to various hospitals are to be made and outside speakers are to be invited for our meetings. The members are helping in our local hospital by serving the dinner trays each evening. By doing the actual work in a hospital we shall be able to see if our interests really lie in hospital work. Our members want to learn as much about nursing as a career as possible. Camera dub . . Mr. Hoffman ,. . . Mr. Bandy . . Cathy Fuller , Shirley Slocum . Any girl who has had, or is taking one year of homemaking in senior high school is eligible to join the F.H.A. The club has many purposes, some of these are: To further interest in home economics, to provide wholesome leisure time activities, and to learn to work and play together, both on a club and an international level. There are local, regional, and state chapters, also a national chapter. The social highlight on the F.H.A. calendar is the Sweethearts' Ball, given every year around Valentines Day. Preceding this event, class elections are crowned. This year for the first time the Ball was semi-formal. The club also holds an annual Mother-Daughter banquet for its members. Chapter delegates attend regional and state meetings. The state meetings are held for 2 days in a large city, so the girls get in sightseeing and window-shopping besides attending interesting meetings. Arrangements are usually made for the delegates and the advisor to stay over night at a hotel which is a new experience to some. Parties are given throughout the year at Hallowe’en, Christmas, and at other occasions a formal invitation of new members and installation of new officers is held. L. Stalsberg, N. Some of these tournaments are basketball, softball, ping-pong and volley ball. Any junior or senior high school girl may participate. Members of G. A. These points accumulate from year to year and at the end of each year, awards are given out according to each girl's total points. The purposes of G. A. The primary aim of our club is to promote an interest in good reading. Most of the members of the club are library assistants. However, anyone who is interested in reading is invited to join. At each meeting the members choose a good book and then review it for the others at the next meeting. The members are thus developing an interest in the different types of books and sharing them with others. The members are learning the arrangement of the library and the different phases of librarianship. General projects have been planned, one being to promote book displays and publicity throughout the year. We also plan to visit other libraries such as the public library in Muskegon, indicated a desire to become librarians after finishing school. Some members have Rifle BACK ROW: P. Riggs, L. The following officers were elected: President, Gordon Worth; Vice-President, Lorena Rasmussen; Secretary-Treasurer, Barbara Deltz. The Club will follow the, regular course of rifle instruction as prescribed by the National Rifle Association with actual range firing. The National Rifle Association was organized in 1871 and is the oldest sportsmen’s organization in the country. It is non-profit membership corporation, and nonpolitical. Club BACK ROW: B. Kokx, D. This great American sport is personal and each individual may participate. 2. The proper handling of fire arms will reduce our annual hunting accidents. Each member is taught the absolute necessity of making sure of the target before firing. 3. Lastly, safe and efficient use of fire arms is a matter of National Defense. This course will act as a preliminary training for army service. It is my hope that every member of the Club will be able to hit what he intends to shoot with safety for himself and safety for others.
