vnW) As editors, we have endeavored to include those things that willever be a vivid reminder of our days spent in Hart High School. We have worked and played together for four eventful years, little mindful of the difficulties, problems and rocks ahead. Now as Graduates, we are separating, each to walk the various paths that lie before us. Let’s frequently recall our class motto--- We climb though the rocks be rugged”. Let's not faint or fall along the way, but ever press on to the goal of true seccess on this great land of liberty. Dale and Bob will miss teasing the first hour girls By poking their backs and pulling their curls. While Judy, one of their victims at times, Will not regret it. (I hope this rhymes.) Joyce will miss prodding those who shirk And Dave will miss his office work. Joan, Burce, and Marilyn gave me to understand That they'd miss playing in the Hart High Band. Pat and James, Clara and Francis, Think they'll miss the good square dances. Shirley, Norm, and Noel when it's all done Will miss evenings full of dancing and fun. While Carol will miss dancing her little jig Every evening with a book that's labeled Trig”. Pat, Maisie and Phyl, unless I miss my call, Will miss the noon-hour basket-ball. Here we are, gathered at the Hart High gymnasium for an alumni reunion dance of the famous graduating class of 1952. We have come here to see once more the shcool from which we graduated before it is tom down and replaced by a modern, glass building. David Lyon is responsible for the new school. Coming back to Hart a few months ago for a vacation from his job at the Sweatbox radio station OPU and the Broadway Stage, Mr. Lyon saw that tne high school didn't meet the needs of the students of today. With his characteristic swiftness he persuaded the townspeople to vote in favor of the new building. There certainly is a crowd here for this reunion. We just saw Beverly Powers, a tall, slender modle from one of the most exclusive shops in New York, talking over old times with Beverly Campbell and Barbara Anderson, who are both secretaries in the tax collection department at Washington, D.C. Since Hart has grown to become a large city in the past few years, Sue Ann Hale has retired from her job as cashier in the Hart Theater and is now the owner of Hart’s newest drive-in. Why look, there's Dr. Noel Peterson, famous the world over for brain surgery, talking with Joyce Franklin, who is head nurse at the Rush Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Well greetings to a celebrity! It's great to see Don Stever again. Don is master of ceremonies on the Mme. Fife La Tour Television Show. Besides this, Don finds time to make sketches for the Esquire Magazine. To keep his brain in good running order, he drums away on his drums. Why look who's sitting over there at a table. It's Kaye Eisenlohr and Debby Gamble, who are physical education instructors at Mears High School . (Mears is finally on the map, too). All the ladies look as if they had just come from the Burnemup Beauty Shoppe which is owned and operated by Ginny Hawley. Did we get a surprise! We just heard that David Vanden Heuvel, who always liked to weild the gavel, has been made judge of the Supreme Court. Why guess who's coming — The two U.S. speed champions, Bonnie Corliss and Cart Robinson. Since we've seen them last they have been made U. S. typing and track Champions. Following our champs is Shirley Van Bergen and yes, there behind her is the usual army of musculine admirers. Next we find Willard Clayton, county agricultural agent and founder of Clayton's Cow Cure for dyspeptic calves, talking over latest farm methods with Bill Stevens; world’s champion hog raiser, whose prize pigs have taken every prize but the door prize at the Oceana County Fair for years. Also at their table is Francis Hammerle and Don Gebhart, partners in the largest chicken farm in the United States. Time out while we feature some of our more talented alumni in a short program. As the curtain rises we see Delores Schaner, who has been on a concert tour of the European Continent for the past two years, seated at the piano. After her fine selection we are very fortunate in having Carol Kludy with us to give a speech on Economics in the World Today . Miss Kludy has been known to give unfailing advice concerning the problems of the world and for this reason was recently appointed to serve on the President's Cabinet. Next we nave a Metropolitan Opera star, Joyce Jetleb, with the selection of O Sol Mio . Look who’s next on the program—we finally have persuaded Francis Bailey to play some of the songs he has made famous with his guitar. And now for a trumpet duet by Marilyn Parmer and Joan Horn. They're doing very well as music instructors at Michigan State. Well, guessthat closes the program. Now for another look around the floor. We overhear a most earnest conversation between Nick Greiner, Hart's leading car salesman, and Doug Swihart, who seems to be trying to make a trade-in for his old Buick for one of Nick's brand new Fordilacs . Oh, oh! Bud Verscheuren just stepped into this and looks as if he's being roped in on the deal. Why here’s Norman St. John, head of the Lastex Foundation Garment Manufacturing Company. Ladies are well aware that Glamour and Vogue are featuring these garments. What's your slogan, Norm, for these garments? Oh yes. No crawl, no creep—No curve too steep . We find that Dick Barton and Clement McClouth are joint owners in the Uholdmweridm Ranch in Texas. Coming toward us now is Senator Christian. With him are his body guard, Bob Trombley, and his secretary, Patricia Glover. Senator Christian nearly lost his life when a bomb was dropped down the chimney of his home in Washington, D. C. a few weeks ago. However the culprit was soon captured by the police chief Buster Glover single handed. Who s the little brunette over there? Why, it's Judy Wood! We hear she has recently married a very successful dentist and besides assisting him, she has a small dancing class with Kathy Lee Eisenlohr as a promising young pupil. r 6 We haven't heard from Ronnie Newsted in a long time. Let's get some of the latest on him. Can you imagine this? He has become the founder of Newsted's Crispy, Crunchy Cookies for Critical Kiddies Company. Sounds like he's having success! Who's he talking to---it’s Dale McDonald, owner of the McDonald Snippy Snappy, Texi Service in Hart. Judy Pangbum and MargaretRaulinjust recently purchased an interest in the Pullallyerworth chain of five and ten cent stores. Here comes Lois Hodges in a terrible hurry. She says her cows have started to give malted milk and she must find Richard Eisenlohr, the town's most outstanding veterinarian. It seems that he invented some kind of feed to produce malted milk. He gave some to Miss Hodges to try out on her dairy cattle in order to get ready made malted milk and now it has worked! Well, well--Congratulations, Rich. Hold everything, folks! We see LeRoy Hansen, a former Tiger catcher, just coming in the door. And believe it or not he isn’t on crutches. Here comes Bruce Norton. He is a baritone player in Benny Goodman’s Orchestra. By the way he’s going to play with the orchestra here tonight. What's this, a convention? No, just old friends talking over their past experiences. Some must have been pretty exciting by the sound of their conversation. Among them, we find Pat Smith, who is librarian at Michigan State College; Tillie Cummins, head photographer for Life magazine; Maebelle Stafford, national cooking expert; and Marie Kapsh, who is private secretary to the Governor of Michigan. Ruth Estabrook just walked up to their table, by the way Ruth is going to be the new principal for Hart High School. Thoses students better watch their P's and Q's. Just coming in the building is James Pearson with his prize cow which he keeps with him constantly. His last cow was stolen just after it won the $5, 000 prize at the Detroit State Fair. Still on the subject of cows. There is Laurence Jensen who sells that famed Jensen’s Creamy Cream. His contented cows number 1,621, at present. Nice herd huh? James Jeffries, well-known New York minister, is talking earnestly with Clara Jean Alvesteffer in a corner near here. Clara is a language professor at the University of Michigan. Alice Highland, who is commercial teacher here in Hart High School and Colleen Littlebrant, editorial writer for the Chicago Tribune, are conversing animatedly at one of the tables lining the wall. We just saw Janet Kellogg, New York socialite, noted for her generous donations to various charities, and Joan Skoczelas, a buyer for Marshall Field's in Chicago talking over their old school days. It is amazing how young all these people look. Arlene Merchant, gossip columnist of the Detroit Times, told us today that most everyone takes Dr. Margie Walter's youth tonic regularly. Dr. Walters is now working in collaboration with Dr. Beatrice Walker on a tonic to prevent worrying of all kinds. What Walters can't do, Walker can. Sitting at this table we find Alice Callesen, who won the Pulitzer prize for her recent novel, Come With the Breeze”. Phyllis Van Tassel, an ace woman reporter for the Los Angeles Bugle, is darting here and there trying to accumulate interesting news for her paper. Now Phyllis is looking at one of the famed oil paintings done by Maisie Rennie, who kindly donated several to the school. Here is Gordon Hunter, the Robert Burns of 1966. He just completed a poem entitled, To a Moose.” Ronnie Hodges looks snappy as usual in the latest suit which he brought into style. It has no buttons. By the way we would like to let you in on a little secret. We understand Ronnie is going to be the new coach for Hart H gh. We wonder if he can do as well as the coach did in 1952. Do you remember that? Why look who's over here, none other than Mary Smith, Mary never could make up her mind what she wanted to do. But from what we hear she's doing all right. She has twenty children to look after. Now, don't get this wrong. She operates a nursery. But that's not all. Mary is now running competition to her dad. She has a crate factory all her own. The orchestra has started to play and everyone is getting up to dance. June Collard, just danced by in the arms of her husband. June has been traveling around some. She's been to every state of the United States except California. She'll get there yet, if it's the last thing she does. Well, we see that all of the members of the class of 1952 have been accounted for and each has become outstanding in his own line. Here's where we sign off. It leaves nobody to talk about except we prophets. To tell you the truth we’re just laving. Joyce Tate and Kaye Trommater We the Seniors of 1952 being mentally well-balanced (believe it or not), and able bodied (after all this work, too), do hereby declare this to be our last will and testament. The Junior Band this year had its largest enrollment since its organization three years ago. The Band played for the grade school Christmas Program and with the Senior Band at the Annual Band Concert March 19th. We expect great things from this fine young organization, for they are our Senior Band of tomorrow. During the year, our band exchanged programs with other schools, such as Scottville and Shelby. October 15. the band journeyed to Ann Arbor to participate in the annual band day festival at the U. of M. There were approximately 3,600 members of bands all over Michigan taking part. December 15. the band and chorus presented a Christmas program free to the public. Then practice began on solos and ensembles for the district solo contest held February 20 at Ludington. Out of forty-four members of our band attending, nineteen were awarded first division, twenty-eight received second division, and four given third division. Those awarded firsts traveled to the state contest at Jackson April 5. March 1, a member of each section attended the band clinic at Scottville to practice for the district band festival, March 15, which was held in Hart this year. Several bands contended in this contest and were judged. March 19 was our annual concert. This event would not have neen a success if our director, Clarence Metzler, weren't so faithful and determined to make it so. On May 7, our band attended the district band festival at Big Rapids. It was an all day event and was climaxed with a concert at night. Also, this year the band set up a plan of organization. It was set up on a military basis. The officers were elected by the band and then the staff appointed the corporals. The duties of the staff are to outline items of business to be brought before the band and to set up rules of decorum. Officers are awarded stripes and regular bandsmen, letters for a year of satisfactory service. THE BAND STAFF ARE AS FOLLOWS: Captain - - The Band Commander Don Stever Sergeant---------Band Librarian------------------ Drum Major........................................ joe Bruckman Sergeant.........Uniforms........................ 1st Lieutenant Assistant to Captain..............Shirley Dayharsh Corporal.........Assistant Librarian............. 2nd Lieutenant —-Band Secretary..................Marilyn Westrate Corporal.........Assistant Secretary............. 2nd Lieutenant --Properties and Transportation —- Bruce Norton Corporal.........Assistant Uniforms Officer...... -----Joan Horn — Pat Pranger Jackie Bengtson — Bette Brown Marilyn Parmer Walter Wheeler r mr y r This year's debate season was one of success. We won five out of our eight contests. Those who participated in all conference debates were Pat Halloran, Dave Lyon, Jack Christian and Dave VanDen-heuvel. Our class is now sponsoring noon-hour movies to raise money for a trip to Ann Arbor to witness the State Championship Debate. Although the Camera Club did not have a great deal of activity this year, that does not mean that the organization cannot become a vital part of our extra-curricular program. It is our hope, with expanded facilities and a solution of time problems, that more students will be able to work at photographic techniques during school days so that the years following graduation may be more thoroughly enjoyed. With Miss Moxon as our advisor, we organized a new club called The Outing Club. ” Officers elected are: President, Jackie Hefner; Vice-President, Alice Highland; Secretary, Marge Walters; Treasurer, Leona Walters; and reporter, Kay Louise Aerts. The Outing Club was reorganized to form a Girls' Athletic Association similar to clubs found in many other high schools. Charlene Eisenlohr was voted as sports manager. In the Spring we’ll be participating in soft ball and track tournaments, and many individual sports, such as archery, bowling. badminton, tennis, and others. Participation in these sports will gain points towards numerals, school letters, and other awards. With Mrs. Barbara Burmeister as advisor, the Dramatics Club realized a very prosperous and active year. Our officers are: Jack Christian, President; Bill Purdy, Vice President; Bonnie Weideman, Secretary; and Dave Lyon, Reporter. Along with the Music Department we produced our annual Musical Show. This year's show, Hart of My Heart , centered around our own community and was a hugh success. Another activity was the production of the three one act plays. With student directors Jack Christian, Joyce Franklin, and Bonnie Weideman, our club furnished two nights of wonderful entertainment. We also assisted the chorus in producing its operetta, Up on Old Smoky. This year, we have begun to develop a very useful and badly needed costume department. We, also, purchased spot lights to improve our stage lighting. For everyone concerned, it has been a very worthwile and successful year. The one-act plays were judged by the Thespians this year who presented the awards to: best actor, best actress, best play, and best director. During the year we held two initiations and the following people were inducted into our ranks: Sallie Bricker, Bonnie Corliss, Alice Highland, Martha Lipski, Barbara Page, Dolores Schaner, Mary Smith, Henrietta Vavrina, Phyllis Graham, Maisie Rennie, and Pat Glover. 4 .e.- ' ’''trh L • - K £-£ € ■r:r? 9 v jf v%! , I i -w ? The Hart-Ludington game was thoroughly a defensive battle as neither team scored consistently. The Orioles led scoring the first three periods, while in the final stanza the Pirates rallied to overtake the Orioles and won 39-35. On the final night Hart met Fremont. Fremont was hot in the initial period, connecting with amazing accuracy. The Pirates finally let loose and battled to a 23-23 tie at half time. In the third quarter The Packers took an eight point lead which they held until the middle of the fourth period, when the Pirates rallied and went on to be crowned the District Champions. On March 13 the Pirates met the Mt. Pleasant Oilers in the hugh Central Michigan Fieldhouse. The Pirates couldn't seem to get underway in the first half, trailing 25-13. The third quarter looked even darker as the Hart Quintet was behind 45 to 28. Starting the fourth period the Pirates unleased their usual comeback midway and cut the lead down to 12 to 3. With one minute left in the game the Oilers took possession of the ball and went into a stall. The final gun sounded with the scoreboard showing Mt. Pleasant 53 and Hart 50. After the game Coach Swanson called into Lansing to protest the game on the grounds that the first two quarters were only seven minutes long. The protest was disallowed because of lack of time for the protest to go through. BACK ROW: B. Stevens, Mgr., R. Koposky, J. Solemn, H. France, L. Hansen, J. Dillingham, G.
