COUNTY NORMAL The year 1941-42 for Oceana County Normal began with an enrollment of twenty. Officers elected were: President, Dorcas Hogston; Vice President, Margaret Nichols; Secretary, Ixona Hux; Treasurer, Aubrey Weirich. The students were from Muskegon, Rothbury, New Era, Shelby, Hesperia, and Hart. The teachers were: Miss Pearl C. Bigge, Miss Loretta Locher, Mr. Leonard Peterson, Mears. Earned by each student were: Red Cross First Aid, Teachers Palmer Method Penmanship, and State Teacher’s Certificates. The social calendar was a full one. The first big event was the “Teacher’s Institute,” with a schedule very similar to that of a State Institute. The “Show Boat,” a variety program, was presented for the public on February 3, 1942. Mothers of the children in the Training Room were hostesses at a tea given for the students. Another event looked forward to by the group took place on March 20, when they visited the rural schools in the County.
