Through his outstanding work as a coach and a classroom teacher he endeavors to keep in close contact with student needs. If his team loses a basketball game, he doesn't lose his cool and get angry as long as he feels they have all done their best. He just tells them to keep on trying to win and never give up. In the classroom his knowledge of history and the social sciences is expansive. He is famous for his classroom projects, term papers, and lengthy discussion questions on U.S. History tests. He expects only the best from each of his students and is dedicated to the job of teaching them to give no less than their very best. It is with great pleasure that this 1977 Memoir is dedicated to Coach Robin May. is Many Thanks to Our Photographers The Memoir staff would like to express its appreciation to its photographers, Billy Moorhead and Dan Evans, for their hard work in helping to make this 1977 Memoir complete. Without their time and efforts we would not have been able to present to you this reflection of our 1976-77 circles of harmony. Harmony — the Secret of the Memoir’s Success After two quarters of mind swapping, worrying, and running around in circles to help each other finish our pages before each deadline, we com- pleted a 224 page Memoir. We found that our jobs were less difficult because we made group deci- sions and worked together in harmony. CENTER - Staff Members: Tina Brown, Gail Gunnels, Karen Osborne. The Junior Varsity had great ability in the back- field, as well as the defensive half of the team. The defense was led by 3 fine line- backers, Kenneth Brown, Tim Cheek, and Stan Mattox. CARL MILLER - Assistant Principal Administrators and Counselors The coming of the school year 1976-77 brought many changes to Hart County High School. The ninth grade, previ- ously housed at the Junior High, was moved to the High School. The new vocational school was also opened for this school year. Our administrators and counselors spent much time and effort preparing for these changes. Mrs. O’Neal and Dr. Du Vail, counselors, spent hours working with schedules and records in order to make the transition as smooth as pos- sible. Mr. Chandler, vocational director, was at the High School most every day the summer before school opened, moving equipment and preparing for the opening of the voca- tional wing. MRS. ELLEN O’NEAL - Counselor DR. BEECHER DuVALL - Counselor Vocational School Opens This year a new addition to Hart County High School is the vocational school. In the vocational wing students are taught courses such as: metals, transportation, drafting, cosmetology, health occupations, and business edu- cation. These new courses are taught in specially equipped rooms so that students have the opportunity to learn by doing. For example, the cosmetol- ogy lab has hair-dryers and manicure tables. The health occupations lab houses a hospital bed, wheel-chairs, and Miss Chase, a dummy, named by the students, that provides practice on artificial respiration. Many of these new courses are taught in two hour time slots. The aim of the vocational school is to prepare students for employment in various occupations through counseling, classroom learn- ing, and on the job training. MR. WILLIAM C. We were concerned with preparing for Homecoming Night, graduation, and the future. We realized that soon life at HCHS would be over. We had mixed emo- tions about leaving school and being on our own, but we also realized that we would be entering a possibly brighter phase in life. RIGHT - Class Officers: Secretary. All the planning and time spent on the junior-senior was really worth it now that it's all over and there's time to think about it. We were pleased to see that the class rings we had ordered looked beautiful after all the worrying we did. It was a little baffling at the end of the year to know that we were within one year of graduation and going out into the world. RIGHT - Junior Class Officers: STANDING LEFT: Treasurer - Sandy Crump. It was pretty scarey the first few days. Panic spread through us when it seemed as though we were going to be late for our classes because we couldn’t find them. We felt like guinea pigs as the teachers stared a hole through everyone trying to figure out who the class clown would be. Finally, we learned our way around. Things began to fit into place. It really wasn't bad after all, for we had discovered that we belong. RIGHT - Class officers are: Presideni - Darlene Hughes. Treasurer - Beth Temple. Secretary - Libby Brown. Freshmen As we came to HCHS we felt unwanted and confused, but finally we got settled and realized that the upperclassmen were not as mean as we had thought and would even be help- ful in most cases. When we had gotten used to the lunch shifts, and found which hall was which we started trying to set our goals for the year. Some had goals to play football, and basketball and others wanted to make all A’s. We finally realized that some of our goals were idealistic but most of them could be met.
