To the Senior Class of 1961: May I extend to each of you congratulations as you approach the completion of your high school career. 1 commend you for your accomplishments. Graduation is an event which you have long anticipated, for certainly it is an occasion of utmost importance. While it marks the close of twelve years of suc- cessful scholastic work, at the same time it opens new doors to wider opportuni- ties, challenges, and responsibilities. As you take your place as citizens in our ever changing society, you will have an increased responsibility to the schools and to all functions of our national, state, and county governments. We hope that the precept and instruction you have received in Hart County Schools, in your homes, and in your churches will be reflected in a high sense of civic responsibility, and that your graduation will be a step upward to higher service and greater happiness. Sincerely yours, Denver W. Cleveland Superintendent Mr. D. W. Cleveland County School Superintendent Mr. D. W. Bramlett Principal Dear Friends: Within this Memoir the staff has recorded pictures which will enable us to recapture memories of the year 1960-61, at the Hart County High School, for many years to come. Each of you has helped to make this school year the wonderful experience it has been. It has indeed been a pleasure to work with dedicated teachers and other staff members to provide high school opportunities for a fine group of young people who are second to none, in my opinion. It is my sincere hope that our school has prepared you for whatever the next year will bring, whether it be college, a job, military service or the next grade in school. An even greater hope is that you have caught here the desire to learn, and that you will keep it always. It is something that no one can take away from you. In fact, it is priceless. Bulldogs fell to the well coached Gainesville Elephants, who went on to become Region 4-AA Champs. 20-14. Eaves broke loose on long scoring runs of 97 and 56 yards for two of our touchdowns and caught an 18-yard pass for the third. 28-7. We won our first game of the season with great and fine display of defensive team. Our defense held South Habersham to only 3 net yards. Robert Stovall broke through the opponents line into the end zone to score a safety. Eaves, Sanders, and Stamps contributed touchdowns. Clark and Vandiver added the PAT. County Habersham 0-12. We were out scored in this game but not out- played. Each had 11 first downs, but Hart County led in passes attempted, passes completed, and yards covered by passing. There was no scoring in the first half of the ball game, and their final touchdown was taken in the final play of the game after time had run out. 0-20. The first half of the game in which Hart County fell to Morgan County ended in a defensive battle, 0-0. Morgan County scored 3 touchdowns in the second half — the last coming in the final seconds of the game. NAITftlll 0-6. Stephens County sneaks past Hart. It looked like it was going to be a scoreless game up until the last 2 minutes when Step- hens County picked up 6 points on a freak play. 22 Eaves 6-13. North Habersham edged us for their fifth win of the season. We scored our only touchdown in the second quarter as William Eaves sneaked in a 2 yard run. We threatened to score again in the final 2 minutes of the game as we drove down to the 10 yard line and were held. A' L Hart County (hamblee 6-20. Chamblee spoiled our season grid opener as their all-state quarterback guided them to victory. Hart County scored its only touchdown in the third quarter on what looked like a comeback on Sterling Vandiver’s one yard quar- terback sneak after a sus- tained drive of 50 yards. 37-6. Against Newton County Hartwell got their offensive machine going. Van- diver, Eaves, Stamps, Clark, and Smith made touchdowns. 64 Our coaches decide which play to run. Hart County u ■ 0-6. Hart County lost a hcartbreaker to Elbcrton. We were inside their 20 yard line 2-3 times and once to the 6 yard line, but we failed to score. It was a tough one to lose since we were ahead in just about every statistical department except for the final score, which is the one that counts.
