SM1 Rice demonstrates Yarnell's powerful flashing lights to the bridge personnel of a nearby ship during intricate night maneuvers. OC DIVISION Hamill RMC The men of OC manned the communication centers of the ship - open 24 hours a day, 8 days a week. They suffered port and starboard and banishment to the staff. But service went on as usual, with all types of communications made available to Yarnell. The Radiomen manned their CW, teletype, on- line and off-line crypto, voice circuits, ship-ship and ship-shore termination, while battling bow-stub antennas, working parties, rigging parties, med lights, and painting out the stacks. The signalmen operated flashing lights, semaphore, and flaghoist, battling the sun off San Juan, showers off Chile, tourists on the signal bridge inport, and mad-dogs ashore. But OC Division made time for even more. RM1 Hollingsworth placed 1000 phone patches for the crew on Yarnell's ham radio station, WBQBDH.
