'COMMANDER STEWART A. RING CDR RING graduated from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Foreign Service. He was commissioned Ensign on 14 December 1956 after graduation from Officer Candidate School, Newport, Rhode Island. His most recent sea billets were as Ex- ecutive Officer of USS BRIDGET KDE-10241 and as Commanding Officer USS FORTIFY CMSO-466.1 He has also served as Aide and Flag Lieutenant to Commander Mine Force Pacific and in the office of the Assistant Sec- retary of Defense. He received a Masters Degree in Political Science from the University of California in 1963. Prior to his present assignment he attended the Armed Forces Staff College in Rmg X0 Norfolk, Virginia, graduating in January,1969. CDR RING is married to the former Frances McCampbell of Coronado, California. They have two daughters . EM . I ' 9.29 Commander Stewart A. CDR PETREE was commissioned Ensign in 1956 after graduation from the University of North Carolina in the Following flight training at Pensacola and Corpus Christi Commander Noel H. Petree, Jr. Relieving Executive Officer he served in VF -13 and VF-74 flying F 4D Skyray, F9F Cougar, and F4B Phanton aircraft. He served as Squadron and Air Group Landing Signal Officer on board the carriers ESSEX KCYJA-92, SHANGRI-LA QCVA-381, and FORRESTAL QCVA -59 . He then attended the Naval Post Graduate School at Monterey for advanced training in Air-Ocean Environment prior to assuming duties as Electronic Warfare and CIC Officer in USS ALBANY QCG-10Q. This was followed by another cruiser tour as Navigator of USS NEWPORT NEWS QCA-148j. Prior to coming to YARNELL CDR PETREE served in the Operations Directorate of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington. He is married to the former Ruth Ann Piercy. The Petrees have four children, ages three through ten.

CAPTAIN ALVA M. BOWEN JR COMMANDING OFFICER Captain BOWEN was born 24 February 1925 in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from the Naval Academy and was commissioned Ensign in June, 1945. His tours of duty have included four battle campaigns, one in the Pacific in World War II and three in Vietnam. For the latter he received the Bronze Star with combat V and the Vietnamese Distinguished Ser- vice Order second class. Before assuming command of YARN ELL he was program man- ager of Anti-Air Warfare in the Bureau of Personnel in Washington, D.C. He has also served as Commanding Officer of the USS PORT ERFIELD CDD-6821 and USS PREBLE CDLG-15j. , Captain BOWEN graduated from the National War College in 1970.
