FRESHMEN HISTORY As the 1959 school year comes to a close we look back on the three years we have spent as apart of the Harrold student body, three years of classes, activities, and friends. These thoughts are now a part of our memories. While some of these will fade, others will remain vividly with us. There is not one among us who can forget that day in 56 when we entered Harrold for the first time. It was a confusing maze of halls and rooms, full of unfamiliar faces. As the months passed we lost most of our bewilderment and began to participate in school activities. We became ad- justed to the school schedule and many of our names ap- peared on the honor roll. Following the summer vacation most of us were eager to return to our classes and friends. Now we were eighters , familiar with life at Harrold and anxious to join clubs and participate in activities. Among the most important was the student council election, for now we were able to choose a fellow student to represent us in our student government. We attended many of the dances and sport activities sponsor- ed by our school. As our secondyear at Harrold came to an end we anticipated the coming year for we would be the lead- ers. Finally we were Freshmen. Realizing this would be our last year at Harrold, we were eager to take part in activities. When we were not the active leaders, we were the active supporters. In addition to studying, we held offices, took part in sports, participated in assemblies and played in the .band and orchestra. This year we all had two new subjects, science and civics. French, a new subject offered to us this year, and algebra were also a challenge for many of us. As this year came to an end, our alma mater had a new meaning to us. It represented three years of learning through study and experience. Harrold was our second step along the road of education, a step that prepared us for high school. Al- though we regret leaving Harrold, we can think back over our memories and say with pride, I was a Harrold Student. 48
