teresa sagracy, vice-president; debbie arnold, secretary; jackie fer-guson, treasurer; theresa sanders, reporter; vicky woods, historian; and loretta smith, parliamentarian. 56 athletics todsbur0 pton8ft eQion II cha s the harrodsburg pioneers, returning from a great season in 1970, bettered their won-lost record in 1971. the pioneers, showing great pride and power, compiled an electrifying 12-1-1 record for second year head coach bill baldridge and assistants sims, feeback, Connors, and sharpe. the team opened their '71 season with a 14 to 12 victory over state power lynch in the recreation bowl, and they continued their winning ways with only a tie with Washington county marring their perfect record, the pioneers not only beat their opponents but also defeated the dickenson system allowing them to enter the c.k.c. playoffs, another first was when the team broke into the top 10 of the state and held thfc posi on the remainder of the season, entering the c.k. c.playoff, the underdog pioneers toppled the henry clay blue devils 23 to 6 for their first c.k.c. championship since 1955. they went on to beat a strong richmond madison team for the second region title by a margin of 34 to 21, but the following week the number 1 rated pioneers fell to trigg county in the semi-finals of the state, as trigg county went on to be state champs, the pioneers, being '-rated number I in class a, scored more {joints (486) than any team in the state, of kentucky. the team compiled 3,501 yards rushing in 14 games and averagea 35 [joints a game, while the defense held their opponents to an average of 9 points a game, wayne jackson was voted all-state in all the polls, and other all-staters for the pioneers were phillip yates, glenn bugg, benny mather-ly, tony bugg, Steve pinkston, richard sheegog, mike saliee, bo yeast, vince kinder and david noel. all c.k.c. honors went to vince kinder, glenn bugg, mike saliee and wayne jackson with david noel receiving 2nd. team honors, jackson was also the leading scorer in the c.k.c. and fourth in the state with teammate phil yates placing 3rd. in the c.k.c. coach baldridge was c.k.c. coach of the year, winding up one of the most trememdous years in harrodsburg football history, the pioneers were voted by u.p.i. as the number one team in class a for 1971 at the end of the regular season.
