A Tribute to Mr. Ensminger There is one person to whom we wish to pay special tribute, not only for this class, but for the classes that for many years have been coming into these halls, and receiving more than just a liberal education in the arts and sciences, necessary to our instruction—but whose example to us, and to the men and women of this community, and those who have gone out to other parts of the world, has been an outstanding example of devotion to duty; whose scholarly education has given us the best possible knowledge for entrance to college or to the world of experience; whose patience and kindly understanding have steadied us and given us an anchor when we thought that our world might be blown to pieces; who never failed to have time for us and our problems. His own sufferings and worries we could not bear, but his heartaches were ours, because he was the heart of our school. The throbbing pulses and echoing feet of many boys and girls have passed through these halls, and he has met them all with the same sweetness of manner, the same grace of a real gentleman, the same fortitude of the soldiers that went from here to the battlefields. We shall not forget our superintendent, Mr. Ensminger, who has meant more to this community than words will ever be able to tell. He was more than just the head of our schools—to us, he is the symbol of all that is finer and better in education in books and in life. He gave us his best, and our thanks are so inadequate—we can only say that his inspiration will make us better, kinder, and more tolerant citizens of tomorrow.
