J U N -I O R S In 1944, “We came, “We saw,” but in 1948 “We will be the conquerors.” Mrs. Alexander and Mr. Whitehead were our able supporters for our Freshman year. For our class officers: Doris Merriman. Bobby Jones, “Sitty Russell and Carlysle Garrison were chosen. We contributed Carlysle to the “Big Blue team; along with him, “Sitty Russell was chosen to represent our class as one of the four Senior High Cheerleaders. We also joined several of the organizations of the school such as: Senior Girl Reserve. Senior Hi-Y, Latin and Home Economic Clubs. In our Sophomore year the going was much easier as we were accustomed to the “Big Time Operators” (upper classmen and teachers). The sponsors for our Sophomore year were: Miss Van Winkle and Mr. Harlow. To fill the vacancy left by last year's officers were: Sammy Edwards. Pauline Robinson, Doris Merriman. “Sitty Russell. Betty Dennis was chosen as sponsor of the Safety Patrol, along with four new members: Joe Moore, Bacon Moore, Bobby Jones and Jimmy Wallace. T. C. Coleman was selected as one of the first five on the basketball team. The “Basketball Bulletin which the Sophomore Class edited, proved to be a great success, and at the same time very profitable. The Hi-Light for the school year 1946-1947 was when we moved to Room 8. as Jolly Juniors. Mrs. Alexander and Mr. Harlow were with us again, to our delight. This year's officers are: President—Mary Ann Peavler, Vice-President—Bacon Moore, Secretary — Eulyn Dean and Treasurer-—“Sitty Russell. We are also represented in various organizations by: Beta Club Vice-President—Frances Barnett; Y-Teens Vice-President—Colleen James, H. A. A. Vice President—Kathryn Sanders. Secretary—“Sitty Russell. Treasurer—Doris Merriman: Conservation Vice-President—Billy Lively: French Club Vice-President—Kathryn Sanders; Student Council President—Bacon Moore, Representative—Patty Mertes. Our Football Team was well represented by the Juniors with such members as: Carlysle Garrison, Irmal Teater, Jimmy Wallace, Billy Lively, T. C. Coleman and Donald Dean. This year we added a veteran to the basketball team. Irmal Teater. The Junior Paper, under the name of “Blue and White Hi-I.ite , is being published by the capable members of the Junior Class. Other means of securing money have been by: selling soft drinks at the games and taking busses to the out of town ball games. We introduced to the school, which now is to be carried on as a tradition, the selection and the crowning of the F'ootball King and Queen. The first attendants were two members of the Junior Class: “Sitty Russell and Carlysle Garrison. We are now looking forward to preparing for our Junior Play and the Junior-Senior Reception. Following this busy year, we all hope to become Seniors and continue to be the most outstanding class of the school, “We think.” Joyce McFatrjdge Historian
