The sTring orchesTra gave a demonsTraTion program aT The Harrisburg ConvenTion oT The Pennsylvania Music Educa- Tion AssociaTion. The HarriTon Band is a unigue organizaTion in ThaT iT serves The school in a series oT imporTanT areas. EirsT, iT is a miliTary organizaTion wiTh The TuncTion oT develop- ing exacTness, precision, and discipline Through miliTary marching during The Tall season. IT is an inTegral parT oT The music deparTmenT Through The Thorough sTudy OT The besT in band liTeraTure, concerTizing The besT and more inTeresTing selecTions which are sTudied. The Band Ties The enTire school TogeTher wiTh iTs music Tor TooTball games and rallies, developing a wholesome genuine Har- riTon spiriT. The Band sponsors a HarriTon assembly con- cerT, concerTs aT oTher high and iunior high schools, and is an inTegral parT oT The Spring and ChrisTmas ConcerTs and an ouTdoor concerT aT The Forum in laTe spring. VOCAL MUSIC The Choir is a musical organizaTion Tor The purpose oT learning new music, reTining The Tamiliar, coping wiTh problems oT piTch, modiTying vowels and cor.sonanTs To achieve uniTormiTy oT color, polishing aTTacIcs and releases, lisTening Tor balance oT parTs and generally reaching Tor ways To TranslaTe pages oT symbols inTo living sounds. lTs members learn lessons in Teamworlc and cooperaTion- bending individual wills To The greaTer good oT The whole -Through singing The worlcs oT The gianTs oT The musical world, Trom sevenTeenTh cenTury masTers To conTemporary composers. Bach, BorTniansl4y, and Brahms occasionally give way To Leroy Anderson or Richard Rodgers. The Choir perTormed aT The ChrisTmas ConcerT, sang assorTed concerTs in The communiTy Tor service clubs, churches, a convalescenT home, and oTher schools in The DisTricT and neighboring areas. This year, a second vocal group, The Mixed Chorus, consisTed oT sophomores and iuniors who were unable To schedule Choir. They received Training in choral singing oT sacred and secular music. They perTormed in The ChrisTmas ConcerT, school assemblies, and The Spring ConcerT. A beginning has been made in esTablishing a TradiTion oT presenTing Tine music by This organizaTion in iTs role OT choral musical ambassadors oT HarriTon. SixTy-Tour
